Spent the best part of my day today fixing a boost leak. Only running 5 psi, I removed the AFM and put a smoke bomb in inlet (made sure it was not touching rubber) then sealed - low and behold 30 secs later smoke comes pluming out from a joint. Sealed - thought all was ok

However I have now lost the leaking air chopping sound on boost but Im still only getting 5 psi :(

Another leak...........

The smoke bomb hasnt found this one yet - gutted

have you got Vijay's boost leak detector?

Smoke bomb is a good idea but will only work for quite bad leaks which which need no pressure to seep out.

Most leaks will only occur when you are boosting and the pressure causes a weak spot or split in the hose to open up and leak.

yes mate, got a boost leak detector - home made.

I can pressurize system at all so Im presuming I still have a fair size boost leak.

I have plugged exhausts, etc.

getting right pissed off with it all now

You can or you cant pressureise the system?

I presume you cant.

What are you trying to pressureise it with? Do you have a compressor?

I had a home made system but was inferior to the one Vijay does.

If you want I can lend it to you. But I will need it back quite quick as I will need it for my Z when the engine goes back in.

Sorry mate, i Can't pressurise system

I have a 250psi compressor (for car tyres - one of them £25 jobbies from argos that plugs into the ashtray) which has a digital psi reading. This just doesnt seem to do it.

I think the boost leak bung detector is ok - thanks for the offer of lending yours though.

Im gonna try again tomorrow now. Its a pain in the arse bunging up the exhausts (5")

I stuff lots of rags up there then put lots of clingfilm over end to make sure.

erm....why do you need to bung up the exhaughts??? correct me if im wrong, but the inlet and zaust can never be open at the same time! so you dont need to bung them up
