None of my brake lights are working... It's not the fuses, checked all of them under the accel and under the bonnet. On investigation, no power is getting to the fuse under the bonnet at all when the brake is depressed (like me at the mo!). I'm baffled?

 

Any ideas what happens between the brake pedal and the fuse? Does the brake pedal have a switch on it, or is it a pressure switch to do with the hydraulics? Any advice, info, guesses etc would be much appreciated please guys and gals from the fountains of knowledge on here (which is why I paid my £20) :bow:

More info: The car also will not release from Park (it's an auto), so the car thinks the brake pedal is not being pressed, although the actual brakes themselves work fine. Confused!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds to me like the switch on the pedal.

I second that. Brake light tend to work from a switch on the brake pedal and the Autobox probably uses the same switch. See if you can find it and give it a watering with some WD40

Cheers guys, but I tried the switch, it's not that as I disconnected it and connected the wires manually to eliminate the switch and it still doesn't work. Any other bright ideas anyone other than maybe a wire has broken somewhere in the mists behind the dash?????

It could a fusible link - mine went on me and I lost all brake lights. Cost around a tenner for a new one from Nissan.

As far as I know the only fuse for the brake lights is under the bonnet (front, passenger side)... it's fine... I checked all the other fuses and those under the accelerator too... still cnat narrow down the problem. Guess I'll have to check if power is coming into the switch, then at least I know if the problem is pre or post the switch in the system.

 

Last thing I needed with the MOT due and my bike broken too!!!

It could be a fusible link

these are not fuses, they look similar to a relay. The brake lamp one is in the driver's side of the engine bay:-

For anyone considering whether it's worth the £20 or not to become a member, here we go... probably just saved me hours and hours of either my own time, or that of a mechanic I'd be paying for!

 

And I've fixed my ZX6R and broken loo tonight too... I'm off down the pub to celebrate my day!
