Went to Halfords yesterday to buy some brake discs and fluid for the Mondeo.

I picked up a litre bottle of brake fluid from the top shelf it was on, and the bottle I picked up was leaking everywhere so I immediately put it down on the floor, fluid dripping everywhere. It felt only 1/2 full, the rest was on the shelf.

I, of course, let the first assistant I saw know that this nasty stuff was all over the floor, but he said "Sorry I'm from the service centre and dont work in store..." and wasnt interested, hmmm

Saw a "proper" assistant nearby and told him, he looked blank and said ok and wandered off.

Meanwhile I went and asked for the brake discs (behind the counter) and waited a few mins while they went upstairs to fetch them. Then realised I hadn't actually picked up any fluid so went back to the aisle. The bottle was still there now almost empty

Picked up a different bottle off the shelf and went to the checkout and asked the girl there for a cloth as my bottle of fluid was wet on the bottom and I'd got it on the disc boxes too, and she gave a strange look and disappeared for aaaages before returning with a rag - me getting evils from the queue behind.

The bottle was still there when I left, a good 10 minutes later.

FFS Are Halfords so obsessed with profits that they employ fcuking drongos who work after school and havent got a clue about anything they sell. Ever tried getting advice from one?

I asked about the difference between "Super DOT 4" and "DOT 4" Castrol Response last time I went. The guy asked "What car is it for?" "What year?" "Does it have ABS?" "Does it have discs at the back?" Before giving the answer - "I think they just have different properties" NO SHIT SHERLOCK!! :xxx:

Calm down Pete ;)

Any more stories from Halfords lol?

I agree, a lot of the guys in Halfords are complete drongos, I asked for a 1/4" T peice and the guy didn't know what one is so had to explain what it was!

Last time I went in they had trouble remembering what coolant was, also blank looks when asking for a pulley puller,

i go in there to buy air fresheners usually, they sell nice magic trees

PMSL, a mate runs the Ripspeed part of Halfords in Leicester and he is a very knowledgable chappy, but the rest of the fruitbats that are there really cheese me off.

Fair enough everyone needs training and experience but its the way they often attempt to look like they know what they're talking about and therefore give misguided info, to save face instead of being honest.

Yes sir, coolant and oil IS interchangable... depending on whether you have aircon lol

Blimey, you learn something new every day....

they sure know how to sell dvd route map playstation systems, alloys and smelly fruit fragrances....as to proper car gear i reckon they are a dead loss....there is a motor factor/shop in Brighton called Cliffords...family run been going for years...just relocated to Hove...folks drive from all over Sussex to get gear from them...is it prices?....nope just good old fashioned service and know-how...Harry's could learn a thing from them

Nice one Andy cheers :)

I notice this bit lol :

"In case of spillage, rinse the affected area with water immediately: Do not wipe. "

pay peanuts, u get monkeys (or inexperienced/disinterested kids)

A few peeps on here dont like using Halfords, and I can see why. I take the attitude that as long as I know what I want, and they've got it, I'll probably buy it from there, as they normally have good prices, but when it comes to asking for something...FORGET IT!!!!!! Total waste of space.

Although I got my carb cleaner from there the other week, asked a few where it was and, as useuall, they looked blank, along with " Whats that for then?" :xxx: But then the guy asked a woman assisstant where it is, and she knew exactley what I was on about (not wanting to sound sexist, but I thought she was just stacking shelves), she was very helpfull...... so go figure ;)
