My insurance is due next week, got my renewal quote with nil no claims, £2,200 TPFT :xxx: Takes the p1ss.

Who else is around my age (24) and has a half decent premium? I have just tried Houghton and they wont insure my as I'm under 25

Gonna have a look at http://www.confused.com I think.

Cheers

Pete

Dont understand some insurers "rules", one for one person, one for another

Liverpool Victoria, dont know if they are over 25's tho but give em a bell, best insurance comapny there is bar none

They let you add mods for free too

try dorset insurance, mine's £1700 fully comp, full no claims, seriously dodgy london postcode (E5) mods declared

£329 mods declared

or Adrian Flux

if Mrs Shrimp is a little older put the car in her name and put you down as a named driver , I have done this with every car I have ever had and saved a fortune

Flux are daylight robbers

Liverpool Vic say on their site they wont insure imports or modified cars  Do they have different rules over the phone?

Flux are robbers, was with them when I first got the zed

Yeh Pete they do, just give em a bell ;)

Just whizzed through JPM for some ideas... try also

and can't be arsed typing any more but if no joy there I'll have another look, and maybe make a list...

Sounds similar to mine - the best quote I got was about 2200 mods declared. I'm a little older (26) but have zero no -claims - but with nine years accident / claim free driving. Having less than two years seems to prevent many companies quoting, as does being under 25. Many companies won't quote if modified, or it's an import (as mine is). I guess a combination of these may be your problem seriously restricting the competing quotes.

Tesco (same as Egg) may be worth a try, i've heard a few good things about them. Confused were very helpful to me and had a very good stab at getting a good quote. Give them a call if you can't get their web site to work.

Sometimes putting gf / wife / pet dog on as a named driver can actually reduce the cost not increase it. This might help a bit. Also, check the discounts you can get for alarms / tracking systems.

Some people seem to make great savings on insurance throught delcaring it as a second car and restricting the mileage. It might be worth seeing how much this would save you - maybe you could buy a very cheap runabout with the savings and everyone's a winner!

As for the people who don't declare the mods - look at it this way, i'd rather spend 2200 on insurance than 2000 on nothing (which is how the insurance company will regard it if they find out!). Your choice.

Anyway, good luck - let us know if you find any amazing offers out there in the mysterious land of car insurance.

Cheers lads - great list there Mr Evans

Got a tracker and its my second car so I'm not that uninsurable. Doesnt the import thing piss you off :xxx: FFS its the SAME car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best 2 quotes I got were from Confused (£1200) and Tesco's at (£1300), but when my renewal came through from Tescos (the Z was insured on my old policy with Tescos for about a month), they gave me a renewal quote of £868 TPF&T at 24 with 2 years no claims, living in SW London... cheaper than my old Calibra V6!!!

It does seem to be one rule for one and different for another though.

LOL Mike, been searching - the number of times you've mentioned your UK policy in import insurance threads - stop it! :slap:

So far I've had 1 ridiculous quote and the rest have been refusals :( That renewal quote is looking more and more attractive
