hi all, back agian this is a question for a friend of mine who has a garage and is trying to fix a zed he's had for about 2 months.

the zed came in running on 5 cylinders and he wanted it sorting (bought from auction) he first thought it was the plenum as it had been off before and all the wiring loom had been cut (injectors) and joined together with crimp conectors, so removed it, gasket was knackerd, put new gasket on replaced it and...its still the same.

hes then since,

checked compression

checked plugs

checked fuel getting in and at the right pressure

large spark on that cylinder

checked timing

but it still won't run on that cylinder???????? I don't know what else to suggest, can any of you lot help???

cheers to all

Jim

Check the spark plug connectors, the one at the back, passenger side, has a sensor, (possible air flow) right next to the spark plug connector, they look the same and WILL swap over, The sensor plug has 3 wires and spark plug 2 wires.

Just check that they haven't been mixed up :)

Hope this helps

if your getting a good spark on that cyl (i presume theyve had the coils out with plugs on to test) then its unlikely to be that!

That's what I would go for initially.

Might be worth putting some injector cleaner in.

I had a similar problem recently and posted a wee note about it on another thread.

Sticking valves.

Apparently due to under use (i never had the car out for 4 weeks there) and the fact that I have a slight leak from valve stem oil seals the valves re prone to sticking. I emptied a tin of Forte Gas Treatment into a full tank of Optimax and it was an almost immediate result. Since then no problems at all.

The garage advised that this is usually a problem wihch does not get any better and you need to tackle the source. This might mean a small rebuild in the future but for the time being it is perfect.
