I was out having a drive last night - off a roundabout in 2nd, accelerated without a problem, boost needle up to 2nd from last bar. Changed to 3rd and there was massive hesitation, engine sounding awful.

A couple of miles later, tried again and everything seemed to work as it should. A while after that, I took the Z out again onto the A1 and 2nd & 3rd were ok, then shifting into 4th the same problem. I was pressing the accelerator down and the car was just slowing down. Lifted off the accelerator and pressed again and the engine picked up.

After I got home, I noticed that it was idling very roughly - from between 600 & 2000 rpm.

Today, (after reading up on the board) I checked the TPS and coil packs. Afterward, the car idled a lot better (around 800rpm) but every once in a while will drop to about 600, or go up to about 1000rpm before returning to 800. The power loss under load hasn't happened today, but the car feels a little rough when driving off-boost.

What should I try next? I'll point out here that I've just sent off a cheque for my subscription as I don't want to appear to be taking the p*** by asking for help without paying the sub first :)

I have had this myself on rare occasions only happens when it has been raining, so getting water on the air mass sensor, fairly easy to swap over to test if you have an aftermarket cone air filter.

I had this too!, would accellerate and it would not respond...take the foot off...put it on again and YES!!!...air flow sensor eh?...will have a look

Sorry...dont want to hijack your thread...!

Come to think about it - it was raining heavily before it happened, and today on the way home after being rained on, it started the idle problem again.

Thanks for that :)

Now I'll read up about the air mass sensor.
