I have a decent budget after sorting out my money situation but I don't know what to do-

I'm taking my bike test soon, and going out on the bike is a total BLAST. I've had a couple of 125 lessons and a 500 lesson, hoping to do a DAS test very soon. Basically I love it and I really WANT a nice bike.

BUT, I want a nice TT too. I love my NA, but have enough money to do one or the other- bike or sell my NA and get a 300zx TT... what should I do??

I suppose I actually have to pass my bike test first.

Get a TT and just get a cheap bike for the first year. It does pay to get a few biking miles under your belt before you spend cash on something really nice.

Get something like a RGV 250 and have some fun, you will look back and realise that you can have more fun on things like that than when you go onto big bikes. Dont be fooled by engine size or price as well an RGV 250 will destroy those 500cc things that the riding schools use.

Rich,

I know where you are coming from mate, i would get ya bike test out the way first then see how ya feel mate. You cant beat the freedom of a bike...but then again a TT is well smart and makes you smile too:D but dont go rushing in mate as you will need to build up ya no claims on a run around first before you can get something you really want...

If ya want a Z and a bike ;) you got the Z now get the bike...

Ive just bought a bike aswell mate but been riding them for yrs....see rides

Hey Rich,

You have a very nice and rare slicktop SWB Z, OK it's not got tubbys but thats not the end of the world. :)

TBH mate, as Matt says get your test done, take plenty of bikes out on test rides (can sort for you if needed ;)) and then see how you feel.

Rich:)

pass your bike test then find a cheap shitty honda 50cc melody scooter somewhere in the classifieds, note the reg, get insured on it, for a year, makes no odds if u actually own it as you will never claim on it, and after 1 year you have 30% no clains. in the mean time buy my TT for screaming around in!! jobs a guddun.

Vijay is selling a really tidy cbr600 for good money, excellent firt bike, bullet proof and will motor when your confidence is up :)

Thanks. Still confused :(

Will def. take you up on your offer Rich when/if I manage to pass. I like me NA and I really do not know how I could part with it. Looks like people are having trouble selling them right now. I suppose I have to be reasonable to her in doors :( :( and do either the one or the other. She (fairly reasonably I have to admit) says I should sell up and get a 2+2 so I can actually go out with her and the sprog. Only thats JUST the reason I like my SWB. To be fair she didn't even suggest I buy a normal car (she's experienced my idea of a normal car before) just said sell it and get a 2+2, turbo. She didn't even go nuts over buying a bike. If I sold the NA I would have well enough to get a sorted TT, just don't see how I could let mine go. As it is, I have enough for a nice bike.

Thanks for the ideas. Even though Scoops seems to be trying to entice anyone and their dog to buy his, no-one seems to be biting- I would have it mate, looks a nice one at a silly-cheap price, why has no-one gone for it??

Similar dilemma here... I think I'd swap me TT for an NA plus cash, as long as the NA had uprated brakes and clutch lines... lots less hassle and almost as much fun.

A TT Z will still be nothing like a decent bike, will it? No point even trying to compete...

This is part of my problem. Love my sliktop, love my SWB, love the condition it's in generally- and I've also put quite a bit of money into it now with the exhaust etc. I am waiting for the ECU to be properly plumbed in at Thor in a couple of weeks. Next job after that brakes. Never had a car that I WANTED so much before and that's what makes it too hard to part with, even if it was for another one.

Christ knows, ive only had 3 been to look at it :( 1 didnt want it, the other was interested then went to see tonyc's, ( no competition but its probably twice the price) then I had another lad round last monday who seemed very interested, was talking of making me an offer, etc , i thought this guy is the one, im still waiting for him to phone back " to let me know either way ". i suppose people come and see it, then go away and get an insurance quote, or look at the price of petrol, or do the sums if things go bang and decide to spend there cash on more important things. I might yet have to lower the price a bit more  buy if it goes much lower then i shall be removing the profec e01 and slapping that in the gt4!!!! might put the profec b out of the gt4 in the 300, maybe just flog it, i dunno. starting to get quite depressed about it actually, could do with the cash too!!!.. whats the number for the samaritans?

Keep it...get an old bike, sort out the no claims (Bike insurance is loads!!...I have been riding for about a million years and still pay a lot...with full no claims!...but then I like expensive bikes!).

You might find the cost of insurance sways you anyway, find out what you fancy and get a quote,,that'll put you off!!

Splatt- is that your zed in the sig? If so, it looks good. Have you got any more full pics of it?

I'll be looking at a 'sensible' not too big not too new bike judging by the advice I've got here and elsewhere.

As for trying to sell the car, it is a crime when your pride and joy seems to get the brush-off by people. I hated in the past not wanting to put a car up for sale but basically being forced into the position, needing the cash or whatever. Bow I have invested time and money in mine it would be difficult to sell up, even if I knew I was going to get something better. It's always a gamble whether you'll end up with a really good one.

Not nine mate...wish it was...Havent got round to taking any nice pics of mine yet as weather is Shi* so borrowed(?) this off the net!!

Definately-

i forget how other cars handle when you don't drive them for a bit. I've said it before but I liked the Soarer I had- I loved when I felt it the turbos boosting. It was a totally different feeling to working at the NA to get it flying. Hope the repairs are coming along well. When I had my (minor) bodywork done I was really worried but it came back better than before. Same will hopefully apply to your car.

Have to say I loved that Soarer. Loved the turbos. They are really nice cars, just don't have the looks that a 300 has. I remember driving a TT for the first time on a test, a really didn't know just what to expect, then the seller took over and I was pooing myself bad. Wish I had bought that car now!! Lovelwhite modded TT, just no history and a few little bodywork imperfections, and so I chickened out.
