Continuing on from my post about an in-car computer install and after talking it over with JD (cheers bud ;)), it looks like this may be do-able. Almost 100% certain it's going to be built around a PC/104 processor which seems well suited for the task in hand. As for the rest, a 2 and a half inch "laptop style" hard drive, floppy drive, CD drive, USB Key drive, soundcard, track ball, mini-keyboard and screen (touch screen if finances allow). Could anyone recommend some good sites to buy from? Any help would be appreciated! :)

Cheers,

Leigh

Chris and Mark: Cheers for the links guys :)

Mark, are you planning on completing you're install? Just wondering what screen you've got and if you've thought of selling it...;) The screen is one item I'm not sure about...ie what size/make I should go for and where it would be best sited...

Also, found an interesting external soundcard the other night that seems ideal. A headunit in this set-up isn't necessary, but by not including one I'd lose the ability to easily control playback "on the fly". But the Soundblaster Audigy 2NX 7.1 external card comes with a remote control which would affectively take the place of a headunit for track/volume control. I'd just need to find a home for it somewhere!

Cheers,

Leigh.

I abandoned my install for various reasons so all the hardware & stuff is just collecting dust. If you're interested PM me and we'll arrange to meet so you can see what's what.

WRT screen. I went for a size I could easily fit into the centre console area. Also wanted a daylight readable & touchscreen one. I dare say there's bigger and better and cheaper out there now. Price stuff up and then come and talk to me!
