Believe me its so easy you could do it.

Of the top of my head theres a bracket holding it on which you undo and two pipes which feed into it undo them swp it over and put them back on.

Jobs a goodun

But I am not risking it. Anyone know who would fit one for me? Anyone done one on there Z who lives close ish to gloucester? Fancy earning some cash?

I can do it for you if you want. Can sort out a chip too. I'm in kidderminster. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

The J Spec oil coolers are basically crap mate. Our Gearbox oil cooler is in the rad, this tends to heat the oil up to 90degrees rather than cool it. The enginne oil cooler is also smaller than the UK One. Basically upgrade it and your gearbox and enginne will last much longer. This is an essential upgrade when running higher boost or the gearbox will cook. You out tonight on the Cheltenham run?

Speedy don't you remember when we were over at Baggin's place I pointed out to you the difference in size of the Oil Coolers between my car and yours ? The Jap Spec is less than Half the size of the UK one.

here you go from when I did mine ...

UK Oil cooler on the left, Jap spec on the right

The oil cooler (engine) is only used when the oil is at a certain pressure, not temperature - its hardly ever used really - have a feel of the fins after a good run - betcha its cold. Not being funny - but I wouldnt advise using the cooler thats had used old engine oil being converted to have nice clean uncontaminated transmission fluid in it - can you gurantee to get all the deposits out? - Auto Transmission oil is an excellent cleaning agent and will flush out any crud missed over time and will duff your box in. Do what I did and just buy the cooler for the transmission and save yourself a few quid too - I bought my parts from ThinkAuto and for £86 delivered you can have a nice cooler with all the fittings and brackets.

Uk Spec one is Huuuuuge when side by side of J Spec.

I need a gearbox oil cooler; anyone know where ThinkAuto are?

cheers

Web site - http://www.thinkauto.com Theres lots of details on there.

I put my cooler in front of the Engine cooler and it does get hot - but not too hot, and it makes the transmission tunnel run cool now.

What you want is one of these babies :)

Nice, that'll do nicely.

Ah - with the auto you will then have 2 coolers in the front space below the air induction - be careful you dont oversize the auto box cooler so the induction system cant fit back in! I think with one that big you may struggle for space but measure the dimensions first otherwise you'll have to send it back and get a smaller one! I can give you the spec of mine which fits nicely with my HKS induction if you want.

This is what I bought for mine - I have seen people gor for the 13 row cooler as well

10 Row cooler 230mm wide 3.8 bsp Male - 46.45

3/8 female 90 degree for 3/8 hose x2 - 1.90 each 3.80

Oil hose 100R6 3/8 x3 - 5.37 / metre 16.11

Pair cooler brackets x2 - 2.94 each 5.88

Jubilee clips x4 - 63p each 2.52

I want 2 New coolers then i think, 10 row for enginne, possibly and eight row for auto box. Can anybody work me out an idiots shopping list for that then? Please.

Hi Bilky,

Thanks for the info you gave on the oil cooler, I am going to order the same bits you got.

Have you got a picture, of what you setup look like?

cheers, Alastair.

chris, get in touch with Luke at the centre, he does a mocal cooler, and then the original cooler gets used as an upgrade for the trans. about 110 quid I think.

you out sunday?

might see ya then

TBH - I'd leave the engine oil cooler as it is - its not used much anyway.....just concentrate on the autobox cooler.

What I did with mine was to make a U shaped bracket with the parts I was sent and bolted it where the engine oil cooler is bolted to the car - then the new cooler sat on top of the long part of the bracket with a cushioning rubber strip to protect it (old bicycle inner tube strip!) You could easily pop to B&Q to get some aluminium pieces to make your own bracket as the brackets you get arnt the strongest, but they seem to do a good enough job.
