hi guys, not meant to be a dig or anything, but why is it that you guys have a superior V6 engine to the RB26-DETT and have trouble/have to spend so much money to get anything close to the Skyline? ;)

One thing the Zed is not, is a super car.

It's a grand tourer that is quite tuneable, not a supercar.

I think a lot of people would disagree with you on that one. In 1990 the car was most certainly known as a supercar, just look at reviews of the zed. It wiped the floor with most of the competition!

I could be wrong here but for some reason I used to think that a supercar was a car that could do 150mph+ perhaps the criteria has changed.

Okay okay in the 80's the Zed was a supercar.

thing must have changed though because lots of cars can do 150 now, even some Skodas I think.

TBH jezz, as much as i love my zed, i dont consider it a "supercar" LOL

nor do i consider the supra, 3000gt, skyline, rx7 etc etc supercars!

its never gonna be a lambo/ferrari alternative, is it??

as nice, & as quick, & as powerful as a z32 is, its a mass produced car. & if it was a choice between that & a diablo then theres not gonna be a lot of choice in it for me (if i could afford to keep one on the road that is!)

hell, even the early lamborghinis were only considered "GT's", until the Muira came out that is

I LOVE MY Z! Enough said! ;)

It will do 155mph, surely thats enough for anyone?

FFS, How fast do you really need/want to go!

actually you answer your own question, an ALTERNATIVE because of price;)

LMAO!! nowhere did i say anything about price.

& it wasnt a question as i said it WASNT an alternative to a lambo/ferrari!!

sorry i thought i saw something about if i could afford to keep one on the road

and ??? usually are question marks

the " " signified i was being sarcastic - it wasnt really a question, it was more of a statement.

& maintenance costs has little to do with a vehicle being a supercar or not.

BTW, no need to apologise

First of all, I think this thread is a good contender for "Thread of the month" or even "Thread of the year".

Secondly, although some people have touched on it, I don't think that you can compair a supercar of the 1980's, with a supercar of the millenium. I would imagine that the Z32 design was conceived in the mid eighties and therefore at the time, could only be compaired to what was around at the time.....but what around at that time? XR2's!....XR3's, RST's, Audi quattro's, Toyota Supras III, Mazda RX7's, and then you had the obligatry Porkies, 'rrari's and ofcourse the Lambo!

No wonder it was classed as a super car! I doubt a porsche of 1990 would compair with a Z32. Ferrari, depending on which one would be about equal and a bit above and the Countach according to Topgear was impossible to drive because it would make your ears bleed and give you a migrain due to the emmisions, but would obviously kill it, but have you ever looked inside one? Do you see Cruise Control? No! Do you see Climate Control? No!

Therefore, I think it is very unfair to put the Z up against cars 10 years it's junior of cars that were 4+ times the price of the Z, because obviousy it is human nature to improve and the new Renault Meganne 225 is a perfect example purly from a performance POV.

Somebody last year made a very valid point that cars are getting faster and faster by the year and we just need to keep ahead of the game. Therefore, more reliable/usable power and less weight. If you have a Z32, especially a TT, it's usually because you are an enthusiast or generally like fast cars.

I personally believe that the Z32 has good handling and excellent performance and if it had a different badge on it, something a bit more Je ne se Quia - or however you spell it, it would be a lot more sort after....That's it, oh apart from this, and it's not a dig, just an abservation that had me in stitches.

Last week someone posted that there was a cheap Skyline going and considering we are meant to be die hard Z32 fans, I feel that you were showing your true feelings about what type of car you would really like if you could afford it. I might be wrong! If I had the money, I know which one I'd prefer! ;)

dont forget, the Contach was designed in the early '70s!!

BTW, no need to apologise

ok i won't

i think this thread proves, even if we all owned the same car opionions would never be the same, and so it should be, i still can't understand the people who think the car is crap, hang around to see what z owners have to say lol

i just read cos's post and most of it makes sense to me

as in a previous post, re the z i'm probably one of those who don't know me arse from me elbow, but i look at in in the drive and love it, i drive it i love it,

people hear it coming and look, and still keep looking as it goes by, and mines nothing special to a lot on here

i bought the z, so i could park me jag up for the winter and the intention was to then park the z up for summer, so far ive had me jag out once, lovely drive and imo another head turner, but nothing like the z for smiles

so i think me jag will be staying away and help the service history lol

back to jags, a few years ago i had a e-type, i wouldn't dream of having one now, they look so outdated compared to a z, different beast (and older) but the z is an awesome looking car, yesterday/today and a few years to come

again back to what cos says, the handling compared to some cars is superb

my jag is a pig on handling unless its on the motorway or cruising round, and i havn't driven many jags that do compare with a z, so thats my arse from me elbow opinion and probably total shite but i believe it :p

dont get me wrong, mr nomates. i love my car. its the best car out there for the money IMO. if i didnt think that i wouldnt have bought one.

its just not a "supercar" in the same sense of the word that a Diablo or a F40 etc is.

its a damn nice performance car tho

:

umm can't really argue with those two, you could have thrown in summat basic at the end lol

But I don't dispute that ultimately the VG should be easily capable of ~800bhp, just a matter of people biting the bullet and doing it.

Jezz, TBH mate, I think people want these as everyday useable cars, doesnt always happen I know, me of all people knows that, but 5-800bhp on a daily car, no thanks...... :)

most enjoybale reading in some time...

fu...k...k all other cars if christ came to earth hell be

driving a zed... enough said...

i think more of the problem is due to dosh.

Skyline GTr's cost some serious dosh. if you can afford to buy one, then you can probably afford to blow loads of money on tuning it for some serious power.

the zed is a bloody bargain for what it is, & us zed owners (well, most of us) dont have that amount of money to spend on tuning!!

lets wait until Macca gets his dynoed before we rule out the zed as a big bhp machine here in the UK ;)

I agree with you billynomates, I can't understand the people who think the car is crap, hang around to see what z owners have to say.

I have to defend the Z.

Okay okay in the 80's the Zed was a supercar.

In the 1980s the Z32 was little more than a twinkle in Mr Nissan's eye - we had the Z31 until 1989/90. The Z32 was launched in the UK in 1990

I personally like the R34 Skyline, I quite like the R33 but don't care for the R32 - just my opinion :D I'm not sure I would buy an R34 though. For the money I'd stick with a GT car, but with more style - an XKR or TVR Cerb.....

Back to the original question, I think the Skyline is faster simply beacuse it was designed to be  The ZX is a GT car in the same mold as the Pork 928 whereas the Skyline is a track-tearing hooligan :D

Also bear in mind the costs - in the UK the Z32 topped out around £34k new but a UK spec Skyline (rare as fekk) would set you back over £50K new........

BTW, the Skoda Octavia RS can't do 150 yet - just over 140 IIRC :D

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

no, surely Zed owners don't think it's a supercar?

A super car is a something like a porsche gt2, keonigsegg, ferarri 360/550, mosler, noble. Something designed to do 200mph with handling to match.

You might get a Zed to supercar 'performance' but it'll never be a super car.

Mush! The gloves are off! When Nissan designed the Z, they built a factory just to build the MIGHTY ZX Z32, they had a Figure of 650 bhp and 200 Mph when they designed it, but they had to wind down the power for the Japanese market!

JUN got 256 Miles an hour out of one, with hardly any tuning, (I think they wound the boost up a tad!) :p

And Max power Magazine voted the ZX Z32 as the best babe magnet money can buy, (unless you're a squillionaire.) It got a 10 out of 10 score, voted buy a bunch of rather tasty and highly intelligent, blond bimbo's! So

AND you call a noble a super car and say a Z twin turbo ain't? Chappy I eat noble's for breakfast! Their plastic bodies just melt from the flames out of my exhaust when I wizz past at 170mph! (The noble is all out of puff at 168!)

You drive a poxy S13? how many turbo's does that have? My TWIN has TWO! COUNT 'EM! TWO! :p

I must admit I think the z32 is better than any skyline, because I like it more than any skyline!

Job Jobbed!!
