After doing a search on the forum i cant solve a problem my car has recently been staying a 2000rpm until warmed up then drops to about 1000rpm once warm so i tryed the following

1/removed connection to tps and placed a multi tester on the black and white wires and wasent getting a reading what so ever so i loosened the screws to turn the unit clockwise and could hear the idle dropping great. But then i took her for a spin and everytime i put my foot down the car kept juddering and then pushing me back in my seat. Why would this happen and why wasent i getting a reading with amulti tester

sorry to go on but the car just aint acting right and im upset  is there any one with a conzult in my area or someone who can check her out ther cars running really lumpy can any one help i will be most grateful

ps.. i should of left the car to be looked at by a pro instead of trying to solve problems myself what a :xxx: i am cheers greg

You have to test the volts while the TPS is connected (so it gets a feed from the electrical system) - if disconnected you won't get a reading

I think you can adjust the TPS by listening for the idle "click" - turn until you hear a small click (signalling closed throttle) and then just turn back a notch. TBH I would go the volts route meself, or even better get a consult on it

Mind there's 2 connectors and the one that you want is the dangling underneath one not the one plugged into it!!! You shouldnt need to reset this. Mines got 137k on the clock and the same bit of white paint in the tps calibration screw that it came out of the factory with. Any tickover problems are prolly from somewhere else. Try this last. I checked a meter on mine and the volts were dead on and smoothly increased as the throttle was opened. The tps also affects auto change points so if it aint broke then dont fix it.

I'd bet contact corrosion in connector wires for yours. You should try waggling the connector under the tps when its ticking over fast to see if theres an effect and also look out for hiss from any of the small vac pipes especially near the battery. You might have an air leak. The connector under was making bad contact on mine and the tickover would settle if it was waggled. Gently took it apart - brittle - cleaned the green stuff off the pins and socket parts and no more probs.

will try that guys thanks for the positive feedback i think when your not a top mechanic you try and prove yourself and tend to jump in at the deep end thinking you no it all and fixing it :p

i will say one more thing guys in that when i tried to take a reading from the tps i presume it feeds to the ecu, from the ecu end of the wire i was getting 2.8v as i couldent see where to take a reading from the connector as the wires are covered?do u need to strip the wires for metal 2 metal contact  greg

Or you just insert a paperclip up the side of the connector wire till you get volts. Worked for me

Wot, into the back of the connector itself whilst still connected to the TPS?

I can get relays to click by wiggling the harness at the back of the plenum... that can't be good.
