Well that time as come.. :hyper:

Z in bits waiting for new Turbos, I've plumbed for TD T28's with ballbearings etc etc. (Cheers Smithy mate)

Smithy tells me the Tubs come with a flange to be used to make a new header. The small cast header that goes between the tub and the downpipe is now to big for the huge tubs.

So a new header is required. Pitty coz smithy had a set made but are for uk and mines a jap.

So just so you understand me..

Engine then header (manifold) then turbo, then turbo header (Turbo manifold) and then downpipe. If like me, I thought the downpipe bolted to the tubs themselves.

So now for the questions..

1, Who's done what re the tub header?

2, Can you buy them in Stainless?

3, can you bin them and have a down pipe strieght from the tubs to the exhaust?

4, anyone got a set, or can point me in right direction.

The current situ is, the garage (Phil at C and S) are gonna make one. Then I thought I would just go back to "top gear" and get them to make SS all the way.

I currently have SS from downpipes back...no kitty kats!

Oh and

5, Who has got rid of all the kitty kats? What differance does it make to..noise, spool time etc...

Cheers chaps...

Will be rolling road tuned and outcome posted when she's all back together and running sweet.

Oh and

6, how do I find out the size of my injector  sorry injectors..

The car was highly moddified while in Japan but then most bits stripped on its inport to uk..so god knows what could/may have been done to it and still left in/on it.

As I said, just 1 or 2 questions.

Nice to be joining the BIG boys how in terms of mods hitting the £1000s... :D

Are you talking about these?

You need the 5 bolt ones to go onto your T28 and then the exhaust goes on the other end...

The other way is to get the original style ones off a 200SX or similar and cut/weld them to fit the Z.

Get rid of the cats and it sounds much more meaty :D

Looks like it.

However, their site doesn't seem to show the differance on uk against jap/us.

Smithy tell me that US and Jap are the same UK are differant.

Also can I be sure that they bolt to the TD T28s?

They doo look fookin sexy tho....who cares if nobody can see them when they are on!!

The stock turbos use a 4 bolt fixing and T28's etc use the 5 bolt.

I had mine made up by SE and fitted them last week.

If I had an unlimited supply of cash I'd have bought those as they really improve the spool up over the normal pipes.

I might change them later when I can afford them.

I don't see why Jap and UK would be different when they are the same turbos unless the exhaust fitting is different but I've never heard of it.

Heres the difference and i didn't know this until sometime ago, the turbo pipe coming of the tub on a jap spec is LONGER than that on the UK spec one, as nearly all after market de-catt pipes are for UK spec cars, now i see why as not many companies if any got into making de-catt pipes for the Jap spec.

The US cars are the same as Jap spec cars in respect of this turbo pipe, so the GD ones above would suit Rossy spot on, a little close on fitment as obviously they are handed.

SpeedyS has both these tubs and these dump pipes on Rossy mate.

Mines a UK spec and same tubs above with custom turbo pipes which i then turned into dump pipes, but as these fit my UK spec car, they would be too short to mate up with Rossy's Down pipes, he would need UK spec down pipes as well, if alls he's got is a new Catt back only, then this would be a good option as de-catted Jap spec pipes are in limited supply, think Danny was gonna do Jap spec ones. If yer ain't got aftermaket down pipes mate, then my pipes and custom new ones would be really good.

Phew !

cheers

smithy

hey guys!

yes am now running t28 tubs with twin ddownpipes as smithy described!

in the end they just passed rhd steering column,

from the down pipe to rear silencers i got stainless exhaust specialist to make up connecting pipes! these were flanged either side of cat so that i can now change easily between cat, de-cat silencer and straight through pipe, only takes about 10mins now!

will try to post some pics!!

as yet dont know how they perform, still finishing off!!

Makes sense other than while at the garage I had a good look at the pipes and they seem smaller...unless mines had a uk exhaust fitted?

I'd have your smithy but then I need to get to top gear and it would have no zost if they are wrong..

The biggest bummer of all is that they can only be changed or fitted while the engine is out.

Phil reccons that when the Tubs arrive (they didn't today smithy) he can wiegh things up..but thinks the best thing is for him to make a pipe off the flange that comes with the tubs down to the down pipes but leave it with no flange at that end..i.e. sleave the down pipe over. That way I can then have stainless from that to the already stainless thats on.

Quote "phew"

Otherwise I could end up in a tiz..How good Phils handy work will be on the turbo header as far as flow and spool up concered...well I guess he'll just make the pipe jeffin big etc...so should not be to bad.

Fingers x'd

Tother option if phil says its to much is smithys and then tow or trailer to burnley from Astley if the pipes are differant and at least with the engine in and smithys on they can mate to it with out the engine out again..

All fun and games eh? oh and a shed load a money to...

Begining to think it would had been better to sell the nissan and finish the porsche..LOL

Only jokin!

I thought they where for NA only. Plus wont the fact all TT in the US are 2 seater make a difference?

Cheers, just add more complications why don't you!!

LOL

Bl00dy hell.......

Lost the plot in the middle of all that somewhere, but I bought de-cat pipes for my Jap car from Johnny at GPS - no problem and they fit perfectly ... !

Its just looking at the picture above in SRREA post, and from memory today those look a lot longer than the cast ones that are on at the mo. So with the T28s on they are even longer...?????

I will just have to hope that the Turbos turn up tomoz and phil rings me with some info on the best way forward..

Anyway I'm missing Big brother sh1te...there's bin a fight so watchin this one..

Night all.

hey guys listen up! i can tell you the best/easiest rout cos i have just been playing round for 3 months being the guinee pig!

i my opinion!!!!!!

get t28 tubs

get smithy down pipes!

yes they are alot longer but just means in the long run flanges are easier to get too, and just infront of gear box!

you can then either buy late series 2 de-cats, or

get a guy to custom your own spec!

my set up is:

1) downpipe with 3 bolt flange,

2) pipes made to fit from 3 bolt flange along each side of gear box to a 2 bolt flange directly in front of cat

3) modify old cats(if required) with 2 bolt flanges at either end (directly as cats open into pipe work)

4) get straight pipes and or small silencer ipes with 2 bolt flanges at either end,

so that come mot or track day all you need to change is short cat pipe!

to make this easier i used sseries 1 de-cats and cut them up to reuse silencers and pipe work!

sorry if im not explaining to well! if i post some pictures it will show how easy it eventuly was!!!!

I thought they where for NA only. Plus wont the fact all TT in the US are 2 seater make a difference?

Why would you have split flange turbo downpipes on an NA?! LOL

The length of the exhaust is different but downpipes are the same.

Like AndyP, I ordered de-cat pipes in the UK (without saying they were for an import and they fit perfectly).

You can fit these with the engine in but it is a lot easier without the gearbox.

I'd get these downpipes and get de-cat pipes altered or custom made if they are too long.

Ahh just realised what it was now, series 1 and series 2, there are deffo 2 types of de-catt pipes, seen them before a few times.

Anyways Rossy yer welcome to collect my pipes from Duffers ( in Preston)and see how they fit for yer and if no good, just send em back fella.

Oh and on a different note, re read yer mails bud, difference between 1175 and 1520 is 345.

cheers
