Hi Guys (n girls) - I need to swap out my aircon compressor as it has seized die to incorrect gas being installed (I believe - no names mentioned).

How big a job is it? Can I do this on my drive - any heads-up/pics/links appreciated.

Cheers

Andy , should not be a prob although there is a bolt at the back which is a PITA , look on TT.net or andyP's site as there is bound to be a write up

Absolute doddle apart from that rear bolt! Best way to get it is with a crows foot socket and an extension bar - you'll see how when you look at it ;) Just remember your facing the bolt from the other direction though so clockwise and counter-clockwise are the wrong way round ;)

& dont forget to have the gas recovered 1st if theres any left! ;)

lol, my dad used to work for on building air con systems for a big telco, the method for disposing of the gas was to discharge it to the atmosphere, 1000's upon 1000's of litres, I also think it used to come in a liquid form, that was slung out the back and left to disolve, he claims its the best substance known to man for cleaning tools :)

Top service as usual :)

I am changing the compressor for similar from same car spec as my own - are there any updates/conversions I should do to the compressor before I fit to make it work with current gasses/more newer gas friendly?

What gas do we reccomend these days?

Its a 90 Jap (very widearse - not relevent I know but..) - TT

Cheers again.

I have been in a comms room when one of these theatened to go off. Thank fook I was actually walking out as the Alarm sounded, not sure if you get a set ammount of time before the gas is relased but needless to say I didn't hang about.
