oil pressure sensor/switch location

Ive had probs with oil pressure gauge since i had an accident a couple of weeks ago. The bottle under the r/h wing was destroyed (just an empty one) and the pipe going to it is now loose and hisses when no boost goes through. Could this at all be attributed to the no show on the oil pressure gauge?

I need to find out if there is any oil pressure and want to rule out the sensor/switch etc. Is there a fuse for it firstly? secondly where is the switch. Hope someone can help as ive already done 3-400 miles since the accident and it all seems fine.... Also is there a definate way to test oil pressure??

Thanks All

Sean

If you made 3-400miles then you have oil pressure. Otherwise your engine would have been dead a 399miles ago! Look in the oil filler with the engine running - plenty oil swilling about means you have pressure.

Do you have any boost pressure? if you've bust the front wing and water bottle your IC on that side might also be ruptured - hence the hiss.

IIRC the oil pressure switch is down near the oil filter under the engine.

Yeah it says it's there in the online manual, but i changed mine recently and it was on opposite side of engine to the filter! tt import auto

If your Oil pressure switch is on the same side as your Oil Filter this indicates that it is one of the older engines (Some of them were prone to Cylinder Heads Cracking etc) if your switch is on the left hand, nearside / passengerside this indicates that it is one of the newer engines.

Didnt know that tattooman, so what do you mean by newer engine? As far as i know mine has the original engine. 1990 import.

What other differences are there?

Cheers,

Trevz, if youre motor is the original engine manufactured after JAN 1990 then you should be ok if it is before then it will have the Oil Pressure Switch mounted above the Oil Filter as opposed to the passenger side (Left Side) and the earlier engines that are prone to problems are numberd lower than 619550. If your Engine number is higher than this and your car is newer than Jan 90 then you need not worry about a thing.
