Hi,

I have heard what i think they call wastegate chatter on some cars when chaging gear and to me i think it sounds better than ya standard whooosh noise from your dumpvalve.

Does anyone know is it possible to achieve this sound on a 91 UK 300zx TT, would you just need to upgrade the Wastegate or does it involve more than this? The car in question is completely standard.

Tnx,

Dan

that noise is turbo stall, nothing to do with wastegates, remove the recirc valves and you'll hear it, turbos wont last 5 minutes though.

Sounds to me like he is on about external wastgates,if you are then yes you can achieve it!

Lots of cars don't have DV as std, they are not necessary.

I know the sound, I used to get it on my R5GT Turbo before I fitted a dump valve.

Sounds a bit like Hannibal fa fa fa fa fa ;)

The rover turbos do come with a recirc valve as standard so i doubt that sound is turbo stall.

thats a honda VTEC thats been turbo'd mate, notice the tacho going off the end of the clock :p

if it's the noise from wastegates that u like u'll need 2 wastegates and two manifolds

Yea i must say i thought it seemed to rev much better than my old rover turbo, but i don't normally have the balls to try go past redline anyway!

2 wastegates and 2 manifolds? Cant keep the existing manifolds then? When you say wastegates you mean uprated wastegates? if so how much are looking at?

That is the sound i was after though yeah, reminds me of the supra in the fast and the furious, that has the same sound.

Well if it is, they've installed it into a Rover - look at the steering wheel and controls!

If the noise is from external wastegates then surely you will need new turbos, manifolds, downpipes and wastegates £$£$£$

I love the noise but not that much!
