ROTFLMAO .. Now that is funny.. nice 1 Roy

Computers running windows are unreliable (FACT) Linux, redhat etc are in a different league. Open source is becoming much more widely used by businesses and along with that comes more reliability, less cost but skilled TechAdmin.

Windows sucks cock for crack money!

I would say windows XP pro is about as reliable as Linux these days,

Can't comment on Windows XP pro mate, don't use it in a business environment. I will take your word for it though.

I though it was down to the Mullets using the computors applications in a Mullet like fashion.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, it no body uses the thing it don't go wrong. If people that understand the programs their using, it don't go wrong. Thats why my computors are always up the spout. :o

windows 2000 is quite reliable also on a server enviroment, its when you start letting people mess with it as a user and they start installing porn and spyware that it becomes unreliable,

Gotta agree with that .. I use win 2000 quite a bit (for Photoshop, Quark etc ... )

Then again I reformat my drives quite regularly, always scan for spyware etc ....

I think it really comes down to individual users TBH .. still think Linux redhat is mostly more reliable especially in the use of webservers and downtime etc ...

I sort of liken Windows and Linux to the Real Ale debate:

Linux is the equivalent of homebrew/real ale. It's a complex and traditional pint which is beloved by Beards and the shifty, strange looking people who you would cross the road to avoid. Nice but not an everyday thing.

Windows is yer mass-produced cooking lager (Stella, Foster, Kronenberg). Well packaged and really for mass-consumption. Can be drunk everyday but it will take its toll.

And the Pentium Floating Point Bug was what exactly?

It was an error in the microcode, so it's partially true what you say!

First that was crappy Intel so what do you expect.

The FPU worked perfectly. However Intel designed it wrong. The FPU did exactly what it was told, it Intel's fault that they told it to do the wrong things

My winXP pro has been running for 43 days, 13 hours and 46 minutes. Hasn't crashed once. And I have all manner of crap on, but most importantly a decent firewall & anti-spyware software :D

Hehe I'll need to switch it off tonight to put in my new Dual Layer DVD-R

how do u IT guys not get overwhelmed with it all ? It all seems so complicated !

In my experience Windows XP is every bit as reliable as linux. If anything its better, linux being more succeptable to bad configuration causing instability. Win2000 on the other hand has caused me a few problems with crashing for no reason. If your computer is running XP and its unreliable its down to poor drivers, problem hardware, or spyware junk, MS don't really have instability problems anymore.
