Trying to install/upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Pro but hit a few minor problems!

During the install several complaints about not being able to copy certain files over, so hit ESC to carry on then on the reboot XP kept getting stuck so had to revert back to 98.

XP install did complain about the fact that Norton was running so I have just deleted all Norton Anti-Virus, Clean Sweap etc.

Oh and when something in the install tried to write to the boot sector XP claimed that it was "Virus Like Activity!" WTF???

So just before I try again just wondered if any of you guys have anything to add that might help me out a tad?

TIA

sounds like your CD is knackered m8, try another one. Also turn off the 'virus protection' in your BIOS that will stop the warning when the boto sector is being written.

Okey kokey bud, will give it another go! ;)

The virus like activity is XP trying to write to the boot sector.

I wouldn't upgrade from 98 to XP, I would do a full installation.

I agree with SRRAE, do a clean install, 98 to XP is just not worth the hassle and your end up formatting the bloody thing anyway!

although win 98 and xp were produced by mr slimey (gates)

they are basically two different os, so as above m8 the hassle that will be caused is a nightmare, IF thats the way you want to go, then try this checker first, should tell you what drivers etc you maybe missing to work under xp
