Is this a good idea? I've heard that it's not a good idea on stock turbos!

Can end up over fuelling and suffering with running problems so at what point should you make the jump to 555cc injectors or bigger?

TIA ;)

wouldn't have thought 555's or larger with stock turbos would be any problem as long as the chip is mapped correctly.

It is a pointless thing to do as STOCK injectors will flow enough fuel for STOCK turbos Yes Nissan did get it right:D

2 people that have lots of experiance with the Z32 and that I have a great deal of respect for told me not to do it.

FWIW, I DID max mine out on stock turbos. Got 555's on there now and as long as the chip is set up properly there is no problem with them. You need to lean out the top end fuelling as to hit ~11:1 with 370's you need to map for ~9:1 with 555's you would make 9:1 and overfuel. Idle can be a bit rough if the latency is not set properly, but again if it's correct it's as smooth as stock.

John what boost were you running?

~15psi. I guess every set of injectors are slightly different. Fuel pressure etc was all OK but you could clearly see it leaning out on an AFR trace even though the map was getting richer at that point.

LOL - AFR trace, i wouldn't rely on one of them to Tune my lawn mower narrow band O2 is good for nothing when it comes to WOT tuning! If you did lean out on Stock - I would suggest your AFR comp our your map was too lean not that you max out the injectors.

At the end of the day unless you have a cooling system that destroys the laws of thermodynamics then you will never max out stock injectors on stock turbos - That is to say - If you run more than 15PSI then you may, but then again your just blowing hot air inway - complete waste and if the intake temps dont get you expect to loose a turDo pretty soon !

All your doing with 555cc injectors on stock blowers is pissing money away, killing our beautifull planet   :xxx: and making your life difficult with the idle problems that you will incur no matter how well tuned it is.

If you want extra safety then get your stock injector flow tested ( as most are 100K+ old) and if they are dodgy then replace them. Think about a Rising rate FPR if you want to squeeze a bit more performance out of stock.

555cc on stock turDos are just a waste of money, save your cash for better turbos and a then get the big fuel setup.

Peace out - No death threats please :D

Thankyou oh great one! God damn it's good to have you back mate! LMFAO :)

The AFR trace was done with an LSU Wideband sensor so is probably pretty good. Kval=288dec, Latency=0.75ms, Feedback=1ms, so stock values for 370cc injectors fuel map at rpm/load points in question was actually getting richer at the time.

I agree that new stock with this setup would be OK, but as you say they're old so why not just replace with 555's if they're not meeting flow anymore. If the latency is set properly then thay idle just like stock.

  • 2 weeks later...

Was thinking of 555's myself but will wait until turbo upgrade until i go for bigger injectors.

nissan did get it right if your running stock boost - stock turbos can run 14psi - i would recommend upgrading to 555's if you are running that sort of boost - and ecu map will sort out the fuelling and you dont want to run lean
