I was watching Question Time last night, and trying not to put my boot through the telly as usual. They discussed the fuel price thing, and some of what was said actually made sense.......up to a point. As usual they missed the whole fugging point of their own arguments

This kinda infringes on the other post about fuel prices at the moment, but bear with me, it's actually about politicians..... Yes, it's right that our oil fuel reserves will eventually run out, maybe in 10 years, maybe in 60 years or even 100, but they WILL run out. Fossil fuels pollute, and generally are a bad thing, fair enough. Yes, fuel needs to be taxed......BUT it's all very well going on about how tax needs to be imposed to cut down on people using fuel, but like with public transport....what's the fuggin alternative??

Governments should not see fuel tax as a good way to fill the treasury coffers, but should be using the BILLIONS OF POUNDS to devise/invent/refine alternative fuels - (solar/wind/thermal/even cold fusion!) But will they? Not until there are only 4 years of oil left and an election is coming up..

I think government shud put money into car technology to push forward green cars. Also, if government did this, they cud make sure cars were built to last and be recycled. Car manufacturers at present want everyone to buy a car every few years - this causes so much waste.

I think environmental issues will increasingly move things from private companies to state, as capitalism clearly is not helping at all.

i dont understand people who dont vote

If they weren't allowed to vote all hell would break loose - voting is a responsibility as well as a right. Saying that though, there should be a box to vote for no-body - at the moment the only way to vote for no-one is to spoil your ballot paper.

people do not vote because you just end up exchanging one lying barsteward for another so whats the point , I have never voted in my life (now 30) pretty much because one party is pretty much the same as the other although I do like the views of the BNP so will be (have) voted for them

most ppl are not informed enough to make a proper judgement about who to vote for.

so we get single issue gut-feeling-voting. Running a country is immensely complicated. Politicians are starting to admit that they don't have all the asnwers and are claiming to be open to suggestions/dynamic.

Hmmm, nothing more than sound-bites IMO - nice idea, but utter tosh. After all, if you really want to point out some of the fundamental reasons for the state of the country today, you'd soon be silenced and branded racist/sexist/homophobic/little englander or any other term that the Guardian reading types seem to find convenient to brand anyone who happens to disagree with their line of ridiculous liberalism.

I take both the point that it's vital to vote, and the counter-argument that often there's no-one to vote for ... as we live in a "semi" free state, we do at least get the choice to exercise that vote or not.

Personally, I like to go and vote at every opportunity I can ... It's my opinion, that certain politicians (especially the current incumbent of No. 10) is very happy with the apathetic "there all as bad as each other" viewpoint, if anything's likely to extend their tenure over office then that is.

So, I shall be doing my bit on the day (as always), and attempting to keep my local council blue .. :hyper:

CheerZ,

JB.

the problem I see is if a party spoke honestly and used logic, common sense and fairness, no-one wud vote 4 them.

it seems they have to lie/spin etc. to win over the other party which is lying.

ppl in general don't seem clever enough to see that- and it always ends up in a 2-horse race where both parties are pretty similar in reality.

i gobsmacked by how many conservative/bnp votes there are... like to see the geographical split.. would be interesting

few years ago the tories were demolished, and still are

I grew up with Maggie Thatcher in Scotland... it was a nightmare

Yes labour ain't brilliant, is there really a viable alternative?, at least my kids have got books at school now and i get help with childcare so i can go to work...

we could try and stay focused on making things better, rather than being whingey buggers

most sensible post ive read yet, most of the things people are attacking this goverment for, were introduced by the tories

just look round your house at the gadgets you have, look in your kids rooms and see what they have, no labour didn't supply them, but i'd be very sceptical if you could have afforded them under the tories

thatcher the milk snatcher

the poll tax

privatisation

destroying the coal and steel industry

3 day week

cemetary strikes (do people remember bodies waiting to be buried??)

power cuts

means testing the genuine sick

inner city riots

unemployment doubled

etc etc etc

i also remember so well life under the tories, and i sincerley hope NEVER AGAIN

Tories still held office for 7 years after all of that.

Tories still held office for 7 years after all of that.

after all that m8, lol as far as i remember THAT WAS THE GOOD BITS :(

yep thats the beauty of our country, democracy, and id be very surprised after all the bad things labour have supposed to have done if they are voted out, as to many people (in my opionion) are far better off today than under the tories, i also remember record numbers of house repossesions under the tories, as emero says i don't think voting these lot out will improve our lives

the last petrol protest they reckon was a partial success, now i couldn't imagine the tories listening to peoples opinions, the miners were crushed because thatcher was determined they were going to be beaten, i think rather than getting the tories back we should try and change the things we don't like, i was scepticle when i heard blair today say the rise in petrol was under review, but i think he realises people can only be pushed so far, but i'll applaud them if do have a rethink (not enough but a start)

LMFAO, applaud them? thats like thanking a burglar for not emptying your house!

How can we change the things we don't like? even labour back benchers can't do that, as soon as something isn't going tony's way he does his little trips to basically force them to do what he says.

so you would rather they kept the 2p??

when i say applaud i mean give them credit for bowing under public pressure

no i mean how can they fuk us hand over fist and then us be greatfull for not getting shafted again, we should cause riots for getting shafted in the first place!!!!!

You cant blame the Tories for ALL the Crap that has happened in the past, some of it yes but not all of it.

Things / circumstances change and there isn't always a political policy behind it.

Whoever gets in power next year, when we will probably see the end of the housing boom and possibly a decline or reccession, will not be responsible for that. But the opposition and its supporters will gladly hold them responsible.

Damn right Scoops!

So they may or may not add more fuel tax in September - SO WHAT?!!!!

Its way way way too high already, i cant believe the lorry drivers will let them off the hook this easily.

In my personnel opinion, politics corrupt over time.

Some go into politics with good intentions. To climb the ladder they'd have to make allies to gain support. Achieving this often requires certain skills or development of skills which usually sets them wide open for corruption. At this juncture some give up and others...well  .

For example, if anyone wants political power they'd need to gain membership into one of the three parties. They can only do so by lending support to the respective parties ofcourse...good or bad!

The salaries for MPs aren't THAT great considering the responsibilities. Unless you are in it for power. What is the point of having power if you can't use it?

Blair said he would run the party for THE people but did he listen to the people when we didn't want to go to war? :mac1: Consider what he had to do for "justification".

Well, at least Labour did manage to improve our economy  . Not sure if I would have a job under the Tories :slap: .

I won't be voting as I know that whoever wins will shaft us one way or another- unless proven otherwise I shall hold on to this belief.

FFS. This country has its problems, but despite the propaganda spouted by each and every party, none of them will solve every Briton's issues with today's Britain. There are too many contradictions involved to make everyone happy - pollution vs car tax, poverty vs income tax, humanity towards animals vs hunting for sport.

However, I cannot believe the number of people who appear to be duped by the white supremicist bigots that are the BNP. Clearly they will be as good at lying about how much they can solve Britains issues as each of the other parties. Reading through their manifesto today, I agree there are some attractive propositions (transport in particular) as there are in the manifestos of other parties. However, the racist/discriminative undertone of their policies is enough to put me off.

Assuming this lot lie as much about what they can deliver as the other parties appear to, all you are doing by voting BNP is running a great risk of ruining the cosmopolitan environment that has evolved in this country, replacing it with unintelligent race-hate and even more discrimination than currently exists. I can hear the cries of "they come over here and take our jobs" already!!

I can understand those that cannot decide where to place their vote, and far be it from someone like me to judge those who choose to abstain. However, for me it is a case of vote for the best of a bad bunch. i.e vote to avoid the success of parties that should NOT be in power.

All my opinion you understand ;-)!!!

I won't be voting as I know that whoever wins will shaft us one way or another- unless proven otherwise I shall hold on to this belief.

I have to agree there mate.

Bring back Screaming Lord Sutch

We got a leaflet through from these guys - http://www.englishdemocrats.org.uk/ today. I'd never heard of them before.

I have to agree with them that Scotland seems to get a pretty decent deal compared to England. Maybe they'll get my second vote. ;)

No, didn't know they were that aggressive to humans - do u reckon one could take a man out ? They seem too small to be a real threat, but bet they cud really give u some nasty bites !

Foxes are pretty weak. I reckon a 12 year old could see one off.

Now badgers, they're far sturdier. You wouldn't want to mess with one of those. Although if you had a broom handle you could give it something to thing about. Or a hosepipe and a car.

Had a few cases recently where they have been coming into peoples houses! One bit a baby in it's cot a while ago!!

PMSL :)

That has to be the funniest thing I ever heard! ROFLMFAO :)
