I'm still looking for my perfect zed...I can't seem to get my head round the prices. looking on auto trader there's similar spec'd cars starting at 3k going upto 7k. I don't want to dismiss the cheaper cars but I get the old more is better syndrome going on. which probably ain't true at all.....Help!

How the heck do I decided what to pay. I've got a max of £6.5k and would prefer a black or silver car, gotta be a TT and not to bothered about auto or manual.

anybody know of any cars that fit my buget and needs? I'm in Northants, if there's any members in the area who are willing to go see a car with me I'td be well appreciated. payment in beer!!! :duffer: :duffer: :duffer:

i know what u mean its a huge dilema, u could get a 3k car thats mint and a 7k car thats a dog, i just wouldnt buy from a dealer as most dont know the problems these cars can have and just price a figure from thin air, set your self a budget on the car price and allow at least a grand to get it up to reliable standard, i got a 4k car tt auto with 18s leathers 80k kms and have spent money doing all the things that go wrong with a 14 year old car, ie all water pipes perished one by one, cambelt was done when water pump went, the odd corroded sensor, heater matrix just gone, but engine and box wise it seems fine, its all the other niggles that add up, not due to poor design or manufacture, just age. getting someoen to go with u that knows them will save a lot of headache and money in the future,

to mod or not to mod that is a question which may be worth asking......are you wanting to mod yourself (i.e. buy totally standard and let the fun begin) or take one that has been tweaked here and there and possibly everywhere...!

i went for a total standard tt (import) and paid £3.5k

As you you know Dan mine is for sale, come and see it over the weekend if you want, your only an hour an a half away, I personally think mine is in good condition compared to some of the sheds out there and an absolute bargain at 4.5. Anyway the offer is there if your not doing anything else, even if youre not interested in mine it will give you a good starting point for when you go and look at some others.

As far as Mods are concerned I rather go for a standard-ish car and then pick my own mods as time and money permit. So I have 6.5k to spend, so If I start looking for cars around the 4-5k mark that will leave me some cash to get the car upto scratch.....A helping hand when looking would be really good, so if there are any kind people out there around northants please let me know. I don't want to go looking at a car blind.

Cheers

mines 4.5 with sensible mods ;)

Have a look at Scoops one mate, can't do any harm can it?

Failing that, there's always a few in Thames valley auto trader. which

i believe is reasonably local to you.

Good luck!!

mate the email i sent you was pretty much a full rundown, what else can i tell ya?

things that dont work, the gay parking stick mounted on the front bumber, and the cruise control, its probably the kill switch on the brake pedal but i've never really wanted to use it anyway so I never got round to fixing it.

Service history, the guy before me had it serviced, got the stamps in a book as he purchased a warranty on the car. I personally dont believe service historys are worth the paper they are written on. All i know is that i've changed the oil regularly and its had castrol rs 10/60 in it everythime appart from the last when it got magnatec which was when the extra gauges ( oil temp and water temp) were fitted. I took it at 60k to get the cambelt and other ancilliary belts changed along with a water pump and a water hose, this was done by Phil at C&S wood, (do a serach on the forum for them, i dont believe anyone has had anything but praise for them). He also sorted the gearbox recon out for me, fitted the A pillar pod gauges, fitted the rear hicas arms when he noticed they were duff, and fitted my new front brake discs and pads (last thursday). Oh yeah and he also replaced the front tie bar bushes for ploy ones and does all my mot's. Grasshopper fitted my boost controller last summer (our very own andy duff was working there at the time and did that for me aswell as fitting some rear brake pads). The shocks/springs/induction kit/chip and oil changes have all been done by me.

The interior is in very good condition, floating around I have an extra boot carpet, targa bags, the original jack/wheel chocks and if i can find it the original tool kit. Shit ive even got the original flare, but i reckon its a bit past its use by date.

The outside is in my opinion also in good condition considering it is 12 years old, as you will probably be aware the front wings and bonnet are aluminium so no rust problems there, but one persons idea of good body work is different to someone elses. The tyres have got plenty of tread on them.

If you want to come let me know, Monday would be best as im playing golf tomorrow, (yeah yeah i know im an old *******), if not maybe next weekend.

Its up to you bud.
