Hi All,

We have progressed through our first year of becoming a club and so we are approaching the membership to see what you want to do?

In this first year we have done most of the hard work and assembled the chassis, mechanics and bodywork together, so that we have an up and running club. We now have the fine tuning to do and the fun part, driving it!

Basically the committee are approaching the members, to ask are you happy with the committee as a whole and would like to see them carry on managing the club for the next 12 months?

Or do you want voting to take place for each committee member?

This poll will close in 30 days and this poll is confidential only two or three technical administrators can see who voted for what?

For the record, I abstained. Being a member of the committee an' all ....

Just for the record no committee members are allowed to vote, are we allowed to abstain even, if you are not allowed to vote how can you abstain?

LOL good point, but as the forum actually allows us to vote I just wanted to be open and honest.

Anyway, why shouldn't we be allowed to vote - you'll always see politicians out voting for themselves !

If it aint broke .................... ;)

I voted no. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't vote to reelect each individual member of the committee, but just that I've always felt that the committee members should be elected.

The original committee members were never elected but were appointed by Craig. When that happened, Craig said that elections would be held once the club was up and running.

The club was then formed and the committee decided that the elections should happen in a year.

Since then the committee have introduced a lot of changes, including introducing an annual charge, appointing new committee members, etc, none of which required the agreement of the members. :x:

I feel that each committee member should be explicity elected to start with. If it were me, I'd be happier knowing that the members wanted me in the job and that I had their support, rather than just as part of the committee as a whole!

Dave the only committee member that was appointed by the rest of the committee was me  As the clubs traders liaison officer.

Not disagreeing with you here Dave, just putting some info up!

Craig had trouble finding people to take the forum on, so in reality we couldn't have elections to start with!

We had to introduce an annual charge otherwise the club would not exist in it's current form and would be relegated to a less up to date scenario!

We appointed more people because the club has been a success and some of the roles are important and require confidentiality, and as you can see from my recent posts for help we don't have volunteers knocking the door down, and we need those people as the current workload caused by the growth in membership has meant expansion.

A lot of people had paid Craig £20 and they felt it unfair that other people could use the forum without paying.

We are asking you now to express your thoughts as a club and we will follow those wishes, yes to carry on as we are or no to change!

Personally myself I would like the continuity to finish off a couple of areas that I want to polish and say to whoever wants my role in the future here is a well run club, look after it!

Well that just proves that we don't know who is on the committee and who is 'just' a mod (who I think should be elected too)! ;)

The comittee want to stay?? Good grief.

Fair play to you all :D

Regards,

alex

I voted no, and agree in essence with what Dave had to say. The issue is not neccesarily to change the positions held by people, including moderators, but to validate them.

I will say at this juncture that there is seems to me to be a "nanny state" situation going on. People are making decisions about what the members should and should not have access to, to the extent that there is a forum to which only certain people have access, and decisions are being made about which the members of the forum are not being consulted.

Whilst the forum was under "sole ownership" that is one thing, but the forum is now owned by a lot of people and I personally find someone telling me that I "dont need to know as the people with more information have made the decision" both patronising and insulting.

Are mods allowed to vote ?

I also agree that Mods should also be elected as well as the committee.

I think the current team do a great job - and in a vote I would likely vote for the incumbents - but other people may want to vote another way. I also think if the Committee were voted in, any natives currently restless might feel better about it. Hell, they might even find themselves voting for the incumbents after all. :)

I thought we were also getting a membership coordination type person - did I not read that somewhere - I don't think the treasurer should have to do that as well as she currently does!

Yes we are, that is being organised as we talk if you have a look in club announcements, the post is in there.

Personally I think it's easier if this is one role. Makes sense to see the members subscribe AND be able to view the money. Otherwise there will be a lot of occasions where the Treasurer gets a message from X to say "Y has subscribed via Paypal / Cheque / Bank transfer and I've upgraded them" and the money hasn't come forward. Whether this be by incorrect email address in Paypal or cheques bouncing it doesn't matter, but it will add to confusion. Do we then downgrade the member or leave them subscribed and hope the money turns up?

I'm happy to continue doing both, as I think it makes sense and was the role Craig offered me initially.

Thanks Stu  remind me to send you an Xmas card :xxx:

I voted yes, but only if you guys want to stay (nutters)

you've all done a sterling job so far

I voted no because i want the committee to stay ??? lol, you do a thankless job very well - thankyou!

But i think each member/mod should have the endorsement of being voted in.

'Do you want them to stay' yes or no is a bit misleading in that respect.

I voted no. I do think the commitee do a cracking job under sometimes difficult circumstances. However I do like the idea of free elections. But how about holding them (if there are to be any) after Billing. Personal thing really. I should get to meet a few more of them. The point of not knowing people personally could allways be a problem. But other clubs manage it and I think this club could also. I would probably vote everyone back in anyhoo.

I have voted yes, mainly becouse the "CLUB" is still quite young in being formed only last year, and it takes time for all things to come together so to speak,i think things should be left for another year and say come Billing 2005 arrange for a AGM to ballot members(paid)on this and maybe other matters, maybe include an online questionaire for members to fill in on what they are happy or not with, what they would like to see improved, infact anything associated with 300zx.co.uk,could be a good idea to have a questionaire anyway this year,i have a couple of minor gripes but i am patient, and i know things can only get better but input from members i think would be invaluable for those involved with the day to day running of the "Club"

Voted no, but as with those that voted the same, it's not because I don't believe the committe have done a great job, (they have!:)) I just firmly believe in the principle of free elections. I thought the first point made by Zevans was spot on.

although i believe in free elections i think this committe is doing a good job and should be given another year to finalise projects in hand in looking at the original aims of the club could you please clarify the membership categories eg. it states that member are z owner living in the u.k. and overseas members need not pay but must register however i like many others are overseas and have paid our subscription keep up the good work trish
