Just thinking about the engine for sale.......

Any ideas on cost for a rebuild, new parts like pistons, cams, crank, rods, bearings etc.

Cost of refurbing the tubs ? Or just get some new bigger ones ?

Mark you can rebuild an engine for less than £1200 including

Forged pistons

Valves , springs etc

Followers

Big end bearings

Crank rod bearings

Gaskets

not sure about Cams though and Turbos will be on top of that

LOL Is that the Blue Peter one?

LOL Is that the Blue Peter one?

LOL just because you got stitched up , the parts are not expensive and apart from the pistons they are all OEM :xxx:

Thats just parts tho lol. If you search around you WILL find stuff at these prices ;) And no, you DON'T always get what you pay for... High price does NOT indicate high quality, in fact, in some cases it can mean exactly the opposite...

How do you work that out?

How do you work that out?

 :(

25k = expensive rebuild = bang within ten miles = ripped off =

but a 1.2k Blue Peter home build repeated 25 times works out more expensive:( Ask poor MTL 3X now on home builds:(:(:(

Here is what I paid for these parts

Forged pistons $540

Valves , springs etc (I Didn't need any)

Followers ?

Big end bearings

Crank rod bearings

(I paid £250 for a rebore and big end and main bearings.)

Gaskets $270 (For full engine gasket set.)

I got my stock turbos rebuilt using garrett racing 360º thrust bearing kits with new compression wheels.

does it matter that Mat took 3 attempts .......???? I think its impressive if any body has a go themselves and saves some money , and if it takes 3 attempts so what , Mats car is running fine now apart from the Tubs

Im hoping to get it right first time :D

Me too :x:

First of all I have to take my cap off to Mat as he had the balls to take it on himself, but three times? Do you really think he wanted to do it three times? I think not.

So yes it does matter,as the more times you take it apart the more it costs

Fair play. Good luck Stuart...

MTL is quite capable of taking his engine out fixing it and putting it back in one weekend, the boy most certainly has balls, I think he is even planning on rebuilding his slushbox and turbos himself

lol, well well, What do we have here? Yes its almost 3 times, the last two times were a result of a failed (A brand New pump i might add) blocking the oil frrd to the crank. But i fhat oil pump had been ok? well it would still be running fine now. and the 2 other rebuilds would have not been nessassary. As for the cost......under £1500! and thats useing Nissan parts, from a nissan dealer too. (i would say to every one local to me down here use them, ok there not as cheep as some places but every part i have orderd from them has been in on time, or before in the case of back ordered parts by a good week and a half. and also the correct part) plus i get a discount in there now lol.

So you see, do it your self and it can be as cheep as chips :D

P.S. that has gotta be the longest post I have ever done lol!

Marky

Unless your engine is completely trashed, the only reasonable upgrade is a set of forged pistons, the rest of the lump should be able to deal with 500bhp plus easily!

Iain how many times do you think your car will go back to SE to sort niggling problems out ???? I am pretty sure that your car will not be without its problems in the early stages even with all the experience that SE supposedly have.

Anyone fitting big tubs,850cc injectors, full engine managment, tubular SS manifolds are going to have lots of problems.

Your point is?

as explained on MSN mate

I recently got quoted £1600+vat for a rebuild from API in Worcs :-/

Bought a 40k Complete car for 2k instead

every part i have orderd from them has been in on time, or before in the case of back ordered parts by a good week and a half.

Unless you are ordering a turbo water hose and are told it will take over 2 months for it to arrive, but for some reason places in the US have them in stock

I think the answer to how much will it cost to recon a Z300 TT I assume is thats the wrong question.

1st what do you want out of you car. If its standard power and reliability then API will sell you a low millage import emgine for £1495. It will have new big end and main bearings, Rings, pistons also if needed, new cam bearings valve seats and stem seals, timing pullys and New timing belts. A rock solid motor.

If your looking for a beefier lump then i'll say realistically you can start a £2,500 up wards + turbos + fitting + oil etc

Contra to what people say on this forum. To have a proper Z you either buy a very good one and look after it or dig deep and sort it They are not a cheep supercar by any stretch of imagination

The zed doesn't have cam bearings!

Thought it had shells? Well what ever it has it gets thats the point and a warrenty which I think is pretty good at the price, because unlike some second hand jap engine suppliers we could mention. You actually get a quantifiable engine thats be checked out properly.
