So.....

Tested the coil pack and plug from number 5 against the block this morning and received a nice strong spark. Also tested the number 1 set up and all was well.

Totally swapped both coil pack and plug between 1 and 5 and again, just to be sure, tested for spark - nae botha.

Plugged them back in and fired it up............still number 5 isn't kicking in.

Now I genuinely did read the links that James gave me but they tend to work on the basis that if there is no spark you have a problem.

I have a spark but no action

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated before I take it to an auto sparky.

Checked the injector connector? Look slightly inwards towards the centre from the coil pack, between the intake runners and you should see the injector - check the connector on that :)

It's awfy busy in there Mr Duff but I will see what I can do. Is it like a little square box?

If I were to remove the plug again and just turn her over a little, I would be able to see fuel being injected anyway, would I not? Other than doing this is there any other way of the checking the injector itself?

I know I am a pain in the arse but your help is most appreciated.

They are easy to find.

There are only 2 wires going between each of the "fingers" on the plenum.

One is the coil pack connector and the other goes to the injector.

They are usually grey or yellow plugs and are held on with a spring clip.

Take it off and clean the connector as they get very green and corroded over the years.

I'd say it's just a bad connection but it could be a duff injector I suppose.

You'll be unlucky if it is an actual faulty injector, it is bound to be the wiring to it. Mine were so bad I replaced the lot (connectors). They were broken, the wiring green and corroded. I put my money on the injector connector so get it off, clean it up as much as poss and try again! Good luck.

We came across similar problems on Black300zx's car on saturday and it turned out to be a faulty(we think it was blocked) injector. Stuck some cleaner in it and after running it through a bit, it seemed to improve slightly but I think a new injector is iminent for him.

Cos, that could be a burnt valve :( Does it improve with engine temperature?

Pete - I'll bet it IS just corroded connections ;) Its sat right under the fuel damper, which has a nice habit of leaking fuel - when it does this it dumps the fuel straight onto the connector and destroys the contacts inside - remove the connector, clean it up and that should be that :)

CheerZ,

Not that I noticed but what was strange was that one side of the plenum would be hot and the other cold, and it wasn't until we turned it off that the heat would even out.

Get a long screwdriver and place it on the connector then place the handle to your ear you will here it click if not then as Andy has said remove connector to check

Took off the lead and cleaned it, it was quite green but not too bad. Stuck it back on and...........still no luck.

Tried the screwdriver trick as per baggins above (cheers) and clicking quite loudly so no probs on there. I am going to go and try a cleaner and see if that makes any difference.

If not it look like it could be new injectors pour moi.....unless anybody as another cunning plan??

Filled her up, stuck in some of that STP injector cleaner and then went for a wee burn.

Came home and she was singing away quite the thing. Turned her off, back on again and tah dah no bloody 5th cylinder!!!!

AAAAARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!!!
