Advice On Plenum Removal Needed

All,

I'm not at work for until next Tuesday and I want to take the plenum off my car and polish it, replace it all by next Monday (so I can drive to work Tuesday!)

Is this going to be possible (all depends on how easy it is to do and how fast I work I know..) and is there anything I need to know before I take it off.

Or even better does someone have an A1 spare I can do a swap with plus a bit of cash?? ;)

Any advice/help always appreciated!! :)

Matty.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, polishing your first plenum is a nightmare experience - expect to take about 20-30 hours on it if you want it to be right. The main thing is finding the right technique. I sent a PM once describing how to do it, I'll see if I can find it for you ;)

Ain't that the truth!

If you've already got all the gaskets, valves and hosing to fit when you're putting it back on and are prepared to work on it non-stop with the prospect of bloody knuckles and blisters to meet your deadline then go for it! When I did mine I just did a bit at a time to make sure it was as good as I could get it. IMHO it's not a job you want to rush bud and I'll be taking my time when I do the one that's coming off the car in the very near future. :)

Erm, yeah its here :D

All I use is an angle grinder with a sanding attachment on it, and a power drill. Use the angle grinder first with about 180 grit paper to get the finish smoothish. Then do the same all over with about 360grit. You can use a small flap wheel in a drill to get to the more awkward areas Once you've done this, go over with some very fine wet and dry paper to get a nice matt finish with very few scratches. Then all you need to do is go over it with a polishing mop, first off with the polishing compound, then finally with the buffing compound... One point though is that you will need LOADS of WD40 - I buy it in 5litre bottles LOL. You must make sure that, as long as you have sandpaper on the aluminium, it is DRENCHED with wd40 or it will 'pick up' on the surface and you'll be back to square one. Once its all sanded, wash it off thoroughly with a strongish soap solution...

I'm giving away all my secrets  LOL
