NZR: first (non-poncy) bike

I know there are some bike freaks on here, and I thought it might be a good place to start, although not zed related:

I am looking for a first bike (motor not push :)) but I don't want to look like a granny on a hairdrier. Any suggestions for what a should go for to get through a test and not look totally stupid, or is it just not possible. Any good sites I should look at? I've never even been on a bike before, but want to pass the test as quick as possible. Any advice appreciated.

Me too!!!

All advice appreciated, Chunk......I'm still waiting for that list buddy, although I will be coming over to your place so I can wizz you down to your workplace to show me around some bikes!!!

Rich, I think we should get Chunk to take us both round!! ;)

Matty.

Hmmmm was that a bike accident with that leg???

Is it basically inevitable that will happen? Or only if you twat about? I was never 'allowed' by my dear old mum. Then the dear old wife. But now I've had the kid I guess I'm expendable :)

I just don't want somthing totally chronic until I can pass. I want to do a quick intensive course somewhere sell the thing and get a decent one, if it's possible

I was thinking about an Aprillia 125cc until I'm passed, I think you only have to do a basic road test to go on the road with L plates on it, then learn to use it in right manner.

That's the way I might go.....but I have seen a nice 650cc bike.......:D

Matty.

Well as you both know  you have to start at the bottom and work up;) Aprillia are good little bikes to start with and get used to riding, i Dont know what the law and changes to restrictions are at the mo  but i think the next step is a 400 or a restricted 600, the best bet is to get a bike that will be cheap to insure and that you can start building your NCB up as without Min 2yrs most places wont touch you on any sports bikes.... :xxx:

I wanted a Hyabussa 1300 but couldn't get insurance didnt have NCB...so i had to settle for a GSX 1400...(not a sports bike sir) was the reply....lol

Good luck in what ever you 2 go for cos there aint no other way to feel freedom....

Do I get this bit right- there are accelerated access or direct access tests so you don't have to have a restrictor fitted, or is the insurance going to be the restrictor??

Sorry if this is a taboo thread on a zed forum.

If you have never had NCB on a bike it is going to cost you Rich:( and most companies insure you on the length of time you have held your licenceand not the NCB you have....

Rich, There is so many different rules and regs now mate for the leaner rider it would be a lot easier if you gave me a call.....07788838600.

Matty, I haven't forgot bud, i've been.......er........busy......;)

Both of you are more than welcome to meet me and i will take you to work and show you round some 'suitable' bikes.

Erm yes bud it was a bike accident, thanks Mr Mondeo :xxx:

Unfortunately nothing is guaranteed in life, but believe me if you ride like a twat there's more chance of things happening, My accident was due to a old age pensioner not looking where he was going.

As said buddy, give me a call and i'll let you know anything about bikes/biking/laws etc

All the best

Rich:)
