For some reason, if I put my foot down before the engine has fully warmed up it will cut out momentarily as if there's a lack of fuel. It's particularly bad sometimes when trying to pull out of a junction.

Also it stumbles/hesitates when cruising along or gently accelerating. Once the engine is up to operating temperature it's fine.

I thought that it could have been a TPS problem but I can't see that causing the engine to almost cut out completely.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Does it usually happen after it has been raining ?.

This used to happen to mine anD I found that there was a little bit of moisture being pulled into the AFM. It usually happens about 4krpm.

Does this sound similar to your problem ?

maybe that damn coolant temp sensor all corroded up too, mine did this, but even when warm, cleaned that up, sorted it right out.

friend of mine had the same thing on his, he cleaned that connector and it went too, maybe thats your problem, same kinda symptons except when its warm.

It does it all the time (when engine is cold) come rain or shine so I don't think it's dampness that's causing the problem.

I also don't think it's the temp sensor as the connector looks pretty clean. I will try unplugging it mind just to see if the engine revs change when it's cold.

It's not the first time I've had this kind of problem. I had a similar problem a few years back which took months to resolve. It turned out to be the fuel pump voltage regulator module that was dying! This caused intermittent hesitation at any engine temperature though, so different from this problem!

if you unplug it thats not much good, if it is fine, then ECU will go into "blah no temp sensor, dump some more fuel in" so revs will change.

if its buggered ecu will go "blah sommat screwy with temp sensor, dump in fuel",

so probably wont make a difference. just give it a clean and check the wires there

failing that, check the hoses off the throttle bodies, might be some gunk in there, my old 205 gti was an arse for this, blocking up vacuum hoses, and used to hesitate all the time!

I'll try putting the ecu into diagnostic mode & see if it complains about the temp sensor or any thing else being faulty. Should have done that first

Checked ecu & came up with code 55, so no obvious problem.

I've also cleaned the connectors to the PTU & still the problem persists.

Next step is to start swapping parts with my bro's Zed! Car really gets on my t!ts when it starts back firing, very embarrasing! :smash:

I rekon my Zed's been faulty for more than 50% of the 5yrs that I've owned it  This is my 3rd hesitation fault & everyone has been a pig to fix! The 1st one turned out to be a dry joint on the fuel pump control PCB! Took me months to find that one. The second was the AFM.

did you sort this problem mate if so what was it??

what fuel are you using sometimes i get hesitation when i dont drive car much, there are lots of niggy problems that can cause hesitation, worth putting a pressure kit between the fuel line, and see if your getting consistent pressure, you can get one with a gauge and sit it in the car whilst driving through the rev range, you can buy the gauge and hose for about £15

is this a halfords job greg. my hesitation has come back when cold.

could it be related to my fuel pump being audiable when engine stopped. are the two linked as in dodgy fuel pump not giveing me sufficient fuel delivery when cold or pump ecu faulty?? im soo confused with this prob now. one minute the car flys the next it lags.

pissing me off now
