DOH! Went for a blast today with the excuse of going to B&Q. Having a bit of a laugh, floored it and heard some detonation so backed off quick - caught the boost gauge at around 17psi. Anyway, do a recall on the boost controller and the peak was 18.4psi  , no bl00dy wonder it was detonating. :nono:

Looks like my re-circs were probably leaking, as this is the first proper spin since I removed them (car came with Blitz BOV's but re-circs still fitted). Also noticed my vaccum is a strong -20 now and hitting -24 on engine braking.

So, must remeber to take it easy after changing something :slap:

...and yes, I've backed the boost back down to 1bar again

BOV's are a louder now though, which can't be bad :p

Lol, that would have been expensive :D

You're not alone james.

I was running 10.8psi with the boost leak from the Greddy IC's. I fixed the leak and hit 17.4, heard a bit of det.

Retuned back down to 14.5 before any major damage was done. I've now set my SBCi-D to sound a buzzer, go red and drop the boost to 10psi for 2 minutes if I hit more than 15.5psi, that should safeguard any future mods a little better.

Can you set a limiter on your apexi controller ?

Installed my SBC i-D yesterday, just gotta complete a couple of little jobs then it's off testing !

dunno, guess I'd better read the manual :)

Dont think so ... Guess I had better RTFM as well

I make some rather good boost controllers that also COMPLETELY eliminate boost creep, not the usual cheap crap but a serious piece of kit made from aero-space parts [seriously] it is NOT electronic but can be adjusted in the car. Operational range of the materials and mechanisms is -60F to 280F with a tolerance of 0.1 psi

They're about £160... I get £30 of that so this really is not the usual £5 pond filter valves crap.

Have tested these against ALL the electronic and Dawes types and none boost as quickly [the blow-off can be regulated to 0.1 psi as can the boost] the 'fail test' ratings for each part is 1 in 3million operations.

I do them in groups of 10 [takes me a whole Saturday to test, pack and post that many] Sold 120 worldwide all with money back if not happy, not one returned.

Mods, if this is out of order posting this then strike it out, no problem.

need pics and stuff.

I am making another batch [10] in July and will post pics.

cheers

This is really up to Mac to decide whether he lets you do this rather than us mods.

What I would suggest though is that if you are making £30 a unit and you now have well over 300 post, you may want to donate £20 to keep this forum up and running and become a subscribed memeber ;).
