Excellent day today, lots of US muscle and hardly any Jap performance, but still excellent all the same. First time I've ever taken part in the 1/4's and I found out that there's alot more to it than it looks.

I did 5 runs in total.

300zx v Cateram (think that's the right spelling) WIN

Reaction - 1.047

1/4 Time - 13.530

Terminal - 105.708

300zx v fiat thing (16.037) WIN

0.780

13.688

117.924

300zx v Mini (520BHP 10.8 second 1/4) LOST

0.584

13.870

106.951

300zx v Focus st17 WON

1.214

14.190

(no terminal speed due to left lane terminal speed sensor broken)

300zx (me) v 300zx (garry) (both fried our clutches trying to start with a 5krpm load ) WON

0.851

14.667

(no terminal speed - left hand lane)

My best time was @ 13.5psi which was surprising as the more I raised the boost the harder it was to get a good start without too much slip. Hense the Terminal speed was faster but over time was down.

Thanks to Antf for lending me some cash for food (I left the wallet at home to save weight LMAO !).

Also, thanks to Garry for the helping me fry my clutch on our second run.

There is some video footage but probably won't be here for a few days.

Burnt head - stinky clutch :)

What boost controller you have Stuart? I thought the APEXi one you can select a boost level for each gear. Set the 1st gear low to 13 psi or somthing and 2nd higher

That mini was f in quick, don't know who you are but i spoke to the chap in the dark blue z, nice to meet ya

Stu,

I have an SBCID and power ID but have not got round to wiring it all up so that it is sequential.

I also have traction control but that is nto working correctly at the moment so it's turned off.

James,

Yeah that mini was rapid, I think the best time he ran for the day was high 10's

Krsmayo,

My missus owns the light blue SWB.

I own the silver one.

nice little burnt out there before the race with Gary. Looked quite close, what times did he get?

Some good times there Stu.

Good vid.

Rich:)

Gone are the days of spending loads of money on an old Mini only to find out that it's still slower than an XR2! 520 BHP - Bl00dy Hell!! Well done mate - definately good times for the standing 1/4.

Lol not much of a burn out. I can't afford the tyres at the moment LOL

Just wanted to warm them up a bit.

I think 14.3 was Garry's best but you'll have to confirm that with him.

Oh thanks stu for reducing and hosting. I need to get NTL to sort my upload limit out, it's a right pain in the butt !!!!.

LOL, that's what I was thinking when I saw the vid, say bye bye to a few mm of tread

Did you get much wheel hop off the line?

Well done Stu!....guys i cant ever ger to see the vids!!! :( because i use an apple so i obviously cant view wmv's...stu do know if theres a convertor to mpg's etc?

cheers

jaz

I can see if I can convert it to DIVX. I am sure DIVX is out for the MAC now

nice one stu - what did you have your TC set at (did you use launch??) when doing some 0-60 runs i found 20% was the best setting, any less & it backed off the power too much, turning it right off produded the most impressive burnouts, but not the best times :D

James, I got a small bit of wheel hop, so I'm going to invest in some sub frame spacers and see how that turns out.

Jaz, I have an mpeg version but it's 140Mb.

Paul, Traction control was set to off, so the launch was prone to driver error. My TC is cutting too hard at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a configuration problem of the box itself. I'm looking to get it sorted over the next couple of weeks.

Looking at the vid I notice my nose lifts up a litte on hard acceleration, Garry's doesn't. Does this mean my front shock are on the way out ?.

Thanks mate is that all the thanks i get even after pushing your car up and down the que lanes all day!!!! LOL ;).

It was a good day out, shame a few more Z's didnt turn up.

Yeah, I would've been there but the swell in North Devon was calling and it looks like it might be flat for a while so I had to get in the water. You understand of course?

My mate was there though texting me all your times!!

it would be more to do with the rears squatting under accelleration - or youre just putting out more power ;)

LOL, yeah completely forgot about that....

Thanks for helping to push my car uphill through the queues every 5 mins, also thanks for transporting the oil and water cans to your car and then back to mine after the race.

Also thanks for the drinks.

and thanks for keeping Cerina and Peppi company while I was on the strip.

Wow, nice one Stu...

I'm a bit surprised you beat the Caterham by such a margin, but then I guess it's got at least one more gear change and he REALLY cocked up the launch!

Do you reckon the weight saving from the targas is more important than the extra drag?

You had pretty good launches there tho nice one... and that's a mighty mighty terminal speed

When you say there's more to it than there looks, what do you mean exactly? Clutch control? Or are there other gotchas?

Wouldn't worry about the nose lifting - that means more weight on the back = more grip ;)
