Most internet providers give users some free web space. Try using that.

Macromedia is good for web design, but if you want simple designes you can you use Microsoft Word.

publisher is easy to use for making web pages.

you'll need cuteftp or the like to upload.

if your just getting started m8, and your not going to want high volume

i.e. downloads etc one of the best freebies is http://www.netfirms.com

no annoying pop ups like most free's

if its something more you want?? my m8 does my websites, so any questions pointers i can ask him

I spoke to mike groves about webspace/ names etc and he pointed me to hostroute.com, does exactly what he said it would and cheap as chips :)

IE can perform all FTP functions, since they're built in for free (if you're using MS OS based machine).

just go to ftp://uid:pwd@

and drag n drop file to upload, etc

Si.

IE is ok for small FTP operations, but I wouldnt recommend it for uploading lots of files in one go, it tends to either just do nothing after 5 mins and give up (and you cant cancel the operation), or just tell you the connection has been reset. You are then left with half your files uploaded.

Something like Cute FTP will ensure all the files have been uploaded, and give you a bit more information.

While any webdeveloper will gasp at this, I would recommend frontpage, it comes with most versions of office and is very easy to use. Dreamweaver also is very good, and you can do more advanced things with it. Bith are good wysiwyg editors.

Personally I just use html kit and run a webserver off my ADSL. :)
