Anyone heard of this? It is going to cost me £400 per day,2 days and the engine will be run in perfect :hyper:

It increases the load up and down until the engine is run in, sounds interesting stuff when the engine is not even in the car when this happens LOL;) anyone heard of this before?

whats the £400 a quid a day for? seems a lot of cash, i thought SE had the equipment to do this anyway? they ran simons car on the rig i remember.

I suppose its better than whacking the engine in, and in the long run will save them cash if it blows up so I don't see the point in them charging.

:D yes mate bloody good things to have done and any probs can be fixed whilst the engine is out....it used to be called bench dyno..i Had my old K series done like this...oooh and yep it does cost ya...how much now i dont know cos mine was a good few yrs back....

http://www.qednet.demon.co.uk/dyno.htm was the place i had mine done...

Might give you an idea...

£400 a day

thats just to cover the Optimax costs

LOL

£800 per 1000 miles for that monster sounds like it will be costing them!!

Yep - some of my suppliers that go into Bentley tell me that they do this with every engine before it goes in the car - several hours at each 1000 rpm increment and at various loads. I quetsioned it as it means your car hasn't actually done 0 miles when you pick it up but true apparently.

does that include mapping in any form? that would rock

Yes Mike  :hyper:

Best option in my opion - simulated hills - with controlled loading of the engine - so no possibility of glazing the bores, etc Saves all the heart ache of being overtaken my a nova whilst running in too:)

sounds a good idea

better than driving like an old fart for 1000 miles

Ian,

is this a service that SE are now offering ? Sounds good to me - that way if anything does go wrong they cant claim that it wasnt run in properly.

Back in the deepest depths of my memory, I remember reading in Top Gear (I think) that Diablo's had this for about 3000 miles before the engines were dropped in. It was about the same time as the changed to 300zx lights too.

so i have to add 3k to the milage on the diablo im looking at buying????

i take back what i said about it being expensive, seems like a good deal for what you get, I still think its in the garages interest to get this done though with a rebuild like this as a cock up could cost them a fortune if they dont catch it early

come on the macca :D

Does the £400 a day include petrol costs?

How often do they change the oil while doing this?

How often do they change the oil while doing this?

Apart from the initial fill and occasional check they wouldn't. The car's going to do a simulated 500-ish miles but constantly taking the engine through the revs to avoid bore-glaze etc.

They may change it at the end - so its super fresh on a run-in engine which would be ideal, but from speaking to Pete in the past he puts fully synthetic in from the start, so why waste an oil that will last for another 6000 miles quite happily?

Si.

Saves all the heart ache of being overtaken my a nova whilst running in too:)

LOL, that makes it priceless. :D

LMGDAO........... this is so true.......... "damnit, can't bring it on to boost, don't want to knacker the shells............" LMAO

Been there and dunnit....... ;)

So are you having this done too Alex? :)

So are you having this done too Alex? :)

yes mate - if pete can organise it.

it makes sense

1) you know the engine is run in properly

2) it enhances the warranty (i.e. they cant claim it wasnt run in)

3) you get a highly accurate ecu MAP

4) you get a correct crank case bhp figure

5) you dont get burnt off by novas while running in

6) you save the 2000 miles of stone ships on the bodywork

7) you can just pick the car up and away you go (none of this come back in two weeks to set it up nonsense.

sounds like a bloody good idea to me
