Young persons insurance

Hey guys

Just wandering if people could help me out?

Iv been trying all the online insurance quotes to see how much a TT Zed would be at around 19.

Im 17 atm and hopefully (touch wood) il have 2 years no claims by the time im 19.

Just wandering what you you guys pay for insurance on your babys?

Bearing in mind this would be my daily driver.

Am i looking around 2k or is that a very optimistic figure?

Cheers

Dan.

When i was 19 my Uk TT was about £1200.

Even more searching and you can probably do better. But make sure its a Uk model, i found imports to be around £3000.

How much no claims did you have then mate?

Also in 2 years time the cars will be another 2 years older, will it go down much because of this?

Also that is alot lower than i was expecting.

Cheers

you wont get a realistic quote until 2 years time,

at 20 i paid £2000 fpf&f with 0ncb

at 22 i pay 1000 fully comp with 2yncb

I was with insurance factory with 2yrs ncb. As i said, it was about £1200 including basic mods like wheels exhaust and filter. That was TPFT.

If the z's value falls even more quotes could be lower in a few years time, but i doubt it.

Again, i searched sh!t loads of companie's and my uk car was fine, an import, even just a Na, was about 3x as much.

If you are that young bud I would say fish around for a UK spec, I have had a nightmare insuring my MR-2 Turbo and in the end had to go through the MR-2 Drivers Club to get a half decent deal.

However, on the Z? Well coz it's UK spec and heavily modded Firebond are ACE! They will do it on a classic policy, and I have declared EVERY single mod and paying about 350 squids a year.

Have to echo the guys here, get a UK Zed. The insurance fookers ripp your limbs off if you've got a motor with slanty eyes, major major diff in the premiums....

I bought a UK car cus of this! HTH....

im 20 and pay £1300tpft with 0ncb. Its a jap SWB NA. Hyperformance insurance. Bunch of tw@ts though!

Well in my experience (I am nearly 30), you do not really see the gains as they put it up by a % every year and this will roughly level out with the age and NCB bonus. Now if you were to loose your NCB that is when you would really feel the pinch....

My G*d, I am nearly 30, no points, 5 yrs NCB and I am paying £880. I am with the wrong people.

Just to let u know something, u will probably find that the little :xxx: on the other end of the phone has put a fee on it too!!! about 200-500 on topof the premium...

Next time u get insurance ask how much fee has been put on the policy!?!?!

If they are a member of the GISC(General Insurance Standards Council) they are obliged to tell u how much fee they have put on top. Used to work in insurance too, plus other half  works for a broker as well. Any Q's on Insurance don't hesitate to ask I will do my best to help anyone, if i don't know it the other half might....

As for policy prices i can get mine on the net for £428 with £250 xs Fully Comp. I am 28 with 11yrs ncb. oh and training to be a driving instructor.

FOOK ME KIA !!!!!!

I am 26, 3yrs no claims, 6 points and I pay £570 F+T

That is funny you mentioned that. After getting a qoute online (very big Insurance company) for just over a grand, when I rang back and gave him all the details of the car he qouted me £1600, I told him I had just had a qoute on their website that day for just over a grand. He took my reference number and just told me that was correct!!!! are they allowed to do this legally.

It fooks me off cuz if I had not got the qoute online I would be none the wiser....

Yes they can do it perfectly legally, and do, When i worked at a certain broker i know there was a glitch in the system and it was quoting silly low prices and one sales person put £1200 on top of the premium.

Basically all insurance advisor have targets to hit and they can add fees to it to boost it up...... it's a real shit.

Insurance companies used to have there own governing body called the ABI, it was voluntary and if an insurance company was found to have done something wrong and the ABI fined them for it they would just leave the ABI! The GISC holds a bit more clout and if they are a member of it which most insurance companies are then they have to abide by the code of conduct, so always ask if your insurance company is a member. If they are then they have to tell u how much fee is on top of the premium....

Thanks for your answer Dave :) .

I think that is absolutly disgusting, how is it that these people can get away with this. Any other company would be shut down as it I see it as taking advantage of your customers.

FFS, this has really rattled my cage.

Who you with Mark? (BTW, I am FC)

I know it's a really scary thought that insurance companies regulate themselves.....

Personally i used to just sell the policy as u got a percentage of it anyway in commission.... i used to sell loads of policies as hardly or no added fee at all.

Nothing to do with my excellent telephone manner or selling skills :xxx: I also used to work in Car sales another scary business, and Also used to be a manager of mobile phone shop too.... Jack of all trades! Best Job was being a Puppeteer and getting to be silly all day every day :D

Sorry for that little tangent.

I've been driving 14yrs, never had an accident, have now

got a clean licence. Because my max no claims is on my

work van, i've had to start a fresh policy (2yrs ago), i am

35yrs old :x: , i paid £825 F'C, with Osbournes, clean licence,

2 yrs no claims. Had a Supra single turbo & a 200sx before

the Z. Have read on here about a firm called Houghtons who

seem pretty good, will see what they can quote me in July

when my policy expires.....the car is an import!

Your Policy on your van is it a commercial one or a private one like normal policies?

  • Author

So basically try and find UK spec as it will ha half the price. Cool

Cheers guys

Admiral were pretty good for me last year - 23 yrs old, 5 yrs no claims, UK car parked on the street, NO SECURITY NEEDED! (got a cat 1 anyway) £826 fully comp.

Will be changing this year though to go the classic, 2nd car, limited miles route.

Yes it's a commercial policy, but was originally swapped

from a private car policy (max No claims) to a commercial

policy when i went self-employed, have since been told

that i can't swap it back to a private policy, as you can't

use a commercial policies No claims on a private vehicle

If they'd told me this at the time, i'd have started a fresh policy

on my van & kept the car policy running too. So now i have 10+ yrs

ncb on my van and will have 3yrs on the Z in july.

seems like people in general are paying a lot for insurance - I am 32, Jap spec 90 TT, Full NCB, Fully comp, parked on drive overnight, cat 1 alarm, through houghtons £451

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno, i got quotes for a supra, 3000gt and a carrado vr6 before i bought the zed and the insurance for the zed was by far the cheapest. (good job really as it was my first choice car!)

Infact, i bought a 205 Gti 1.9 in the summer to fanny about wi and it cost nearly the same as the zed for insurance!!

Very limited co's do mirror the bonus from a commercial policy to a private policy. the other half is going to look it up 2morrow and i will let u know thursday night as away on business 2morrow night :duffer:

But the broker she works for has co's that mirror bonus for 2nd cars.
