Hi Stuart,

Do you have any photos showing the relocation of the PTU, James said you moved it somewhere near the fuel filter I think.

Thanks

Sorry I don't have a pic to hand, but the series 2 PTU fits nicely between the fusebox and the strut tower. There's a handy 10mm bolt there as well.

You can't really see it from this picture but it just to the right of the fuse box...

Thanks everyone.......I guess it makes sense to move it, after I get enough tips and info I will do it this weekend.

Thanks Stuart, going out to take a look at mine and look around the fuse box area.

Did you just mount it with the one bolt ? If so is that enough do you think ?

John

I bent the mounting bracket to mirror the curve of the inner wing and was going to drill another 3 holes once it was in place but as there's no movement whatsoever I thought it best to avoid drilling the wing. Try it yourself, and if you're not happy you can get the drill out!

The bolt's hidden in the attached picture but it's the bottom left corner of the PTU.

I put mine in the same place,as Dick says fits straight in without drilling.

Thanks Dick,

Looks good.

I will take a look at mine now, if the series 1 fits okay in there, I think I will make do with the one bolt, I dont want to go drilling holes on the sheet metal.

Cheers

is there any evidence to suggest that relocating a series 2 PTU is actually beneficial at all??? the series 1 then yes, i would agree its worthwhile, but if replaceing with the later type I wouldnt have thought it would be worth the effort??

I was just thinking, relocating the series 1 PTU to over by the fuse box would be a cooler spot for it. But, the issue of vibration was raised in another post (by AndyP, I think) so, do you think this new position for the PTU (by the fuse box) will increase or decrease (or stay the same) the vibration ?

John

I re-located mine when I was replacing a knackered series 1 with a series 2 so there really wasn't any effort involved. Anyway, I just thought that the original mounting point had to be the least friendly place they could have picked!

Colin

I relocated my series two so it was easier to get to if need be. I think it looks a lot tidier as well.

I put mine in the same place,as Dick says fits straight in without drilling.

Holy Christ Mac, now that is a stunning car!!!!

She will be when the new parts are fitted :hyper: ;)

How did you go on for moving the wiring - or does it all just unclip and move across easily enough?

i was having all sorts of problems with my series 1 ptu, so i moved it similar to the aus300 site except a much simpler bracket. It now is a lot cooler because its getting a direct blast of cool air from the fan and also i used rubber spacers to eliminate any vibration. Also you don't have to rewire anything as the existing loom reaches. Only cost me £10, I recomend it to everone.

What did you buy for the £10 ?
