My drivers side headlight (the outer, round one) stopped working. Just taken the bulb out and it's fine. No voltage on the 2-pin chunky Nissan connector (damn!). The other side works fine. Saying that, all 3 bulbs are on, and I'm sure only the 2 outers would be normally(?!). Dunno, can't really remember. Anyway, when I stick full-beam on, I get the passenger side large one (oblong) on, and nothing else. WTF?!

Just to confuse things a little more... when I'm supposed to be on dipped beam, I get a half-bright full beam light on the dash. On full beam (one bulb!) the full beam dash light goes out altogether.

Anyone have any idea WTF is going on?! Is there a fuse somewhere I need to be checking? Or is a relay f*cked? Tell me it's not the relays in the front passenger side of the engine bay!.. can't easily look at those cos they're stuck under a dump-valve :(

Really? Excellent! Cheers Wez. I love simple fix's. Means I've gotta yank the whole dump valve pipe out just to get the top off the fuse-box tho... but if it's the solution, then great. Don't s'pose you remember which fuse it is? It'll be obvious, so I dunno why I'm asking.

This is EXACTLY the problem I have at the moment. Checked all fuses - seems OK. If you find the solution, write it up please!

Well, the solution was just what wez said... checked it out today - managed to undo the dump valve pipe and rotate it, rather than removing the whole thing - then checked the fuses. There's two 15 amp ones, I think labelled dipped beam LHS and RHS (UK spec fuse/relay lid). The RHS one was busted. New fuse in, everything is jubbly-lubbly :)

Nice one - glad it was simple for you.

I replaced both my 15A ones yesterday - even though they looked OK. Didn't work :-( Going to try the relays next.

Oh? Don't mean to insult your intelligence, but you have checked the bulb, right? It's also worth checking with a multimeter (if you've got one) if there's any voltage on the positive pin (the spade connector) when the lights should be on. Check it relative to the other pin (a bullet?) and also relative to a good known earth, just in case the bulb earth has gone bad. Can't think what else might help.

It's OK - you can insult my intelligence when it comes to knowing about Zed electricals!

I have measured the volatge across the pins and there isn't any when there should be.

I've also gone back to the connector before the bulb and nothing there either.

The wierd thing is I get a very weak voltage through it, enough to give the bulb a faint glow when I put my lights on full beam.

I had exactly the same problem last year - it wasn't the fuse but the relay. Try tapping the top of the main beam relay with the head of a screw driver, or if possible swapping it with one of the others. On a UK spec there was another of the same type (can't remember might have been radiator fan?) that allowed me to test.

Not the relays! Just got them tested at Lucas and OK.

Off to check the switch now. Any other ideas!

Off to France in the Zed tonight and am a bit worried about not having proper headlights :-/

i need a little help where can i get my drivers side main head light realigned as it's dropped, down so doesn't even shine on the road any more ..scary in the dark... (don't think it's ever been right since the accident)

it doesn't sit right which is making my whole bonnet not sit right ....

do garages do it or /halfords or what ?...help!!!!

i know my head light was glued back together...

what exactly does it sit on (the headlight, does it have mounts?)

ok crash course in headlights...

Right, the headlamp sits in a flat plate (for want of a better description ;)) At the rear of the lamp unit there are two welded-in nuts, of which two bolts come up from below. At the front there are two fixed bolts that go through the plate and then have two nuts put on underneath (12mm spanner) All of this is then secure/fixed, the adjustment is by three plastic adjusters on the rear of the lamp unit, but these can dry out and jam or get damaged.

An MOT centre or even your local garage will be able to adjust these (if they arnt broken/jammed) and then set them up to the standard level. Unless there is further accident damage?!

Good luck

EDIT*** I'll post some pics later, but I'm at work at the mo :D;)

please Dave show me a piccie then i'll get it better as i'm more visually orientated !!

Further accident damage I bloody hope not,god knows what's behind that headlight....

I'll print it off in the mean time and figure out what i need to do

thanks xxx

Sorry, I forgot :slap:

Right, here you go, i hope SRRAE doesn't mind me borowing his pic

With your front end removed, this is what it looks like. In the BLUE circles are the holes for the bolts to come up from below, and circled in YELLOW are the holes that the captive bolts drop down through (hope that makes sense) The adjusters are then accessible from the rear.

One thing that confused me for a while when tracing a fog light problem was that it's the earth that's switched and not the 12v.

I was getting power to the bulb but still no light.

Turned out to be a corroded earth wire which I replaced.

Seems stupid having permanently live wires about but there you go.

I presume the headlights are the same.
