Have a profec boost controller recently brought on group buy but having second thoughts on fitting it!!!! may just fit mig tips [which i have also just got] with chip.

what do you guys think

really worried on the problems of getting rid of the safety boost once controller fitted

cheers

Dave

fit the boost controller, far better than mig tips..... just do it! now!

keep the controller

sell the bannana and mig tips to me

dave you no it makes sence

steve

Boost controller all the way.........

sell ME the boost controller!:D

sell the EBC & use mig tips!!!! (well someone had to say it) :D

i use boost jets to 16psi without problems! i couldnt be arsed to pay out for a load of electrical equipment which effectivley does the same job as a couple of 50p mig tips.

an EBC is, of course, a better way of raising pressure. & as you already have it you may as well use it now!

BUT, as you say - theres no safety boost with an EBC. I think if youre going to fit one, then a knock meter is a bloody good idea too, esp if youre not mechanically minded & may not pick up on a car detting.

all IMO

Still not sure what to do [blame Baggins :x: ]

cheers

not sure, no-one seems to bother on a zed  i know its the first thing they add on scooby's when increasing boost

Would this be the same as a gizmo i had on my old 260z which i turbo charged......i think it was called micro dynamics!

Just looked on the link seems to be simple BUT affective

cheers

Dave

If you're going to buy a KnockLink then it might be a good idea to upgrade the stock sensor for a Bosch unit while you're at it. Bought both the Link and the sensor from http://www.jap-innovations.fsnet.co.uk

Very good service and next day delivery which was good.

It's a PITA to get to the stock sensor which is why I'm waiting for my 555's to arrive, and I've got the plenum off, to fit it. You don't have to locate it in the stock position but I guess the bods at Nissan put it there for a reason so who am I to argue ;) Will be posting pics on the fitting when I (eventually) get it done.

Leigh

Baggins told me if he had his chance again he would go with the Mig Tips every time.

Dave, if you want can rig up a system to retain the safety boost feature with a boost controller. Bit of a PITA though and TBH the stock knock detection is pretty useless anyway. Not to sure if the knocklink has external outputs, but if it does, could use that to cut the boost controller signal to the solenoid.

Sounds like a good idea John.

FFS fit the EBC and get a chip fitted, then just be sensible about how much you push it.

Looking at the knock link its only a display for what the sensor is outputing - ie engine noise. You have to watch it to be able to spot detonation - the noise level will suddenly increase. From what I can see there is no intelligent processing of the signal, hence no external output to feed the EBC with. Why not simply feed the stock boost solenoid supply back to the EBC, then when

Yeah I know, sometimes I surprise myself :D ;)

Simple answer to that Captain, stop the cut and paste FFS  :x: ;)

I'd go for the controller every time.

You can turn the boost down when it's wet/hot/the mrs is driving.

Turn it up when the Lambo pulls up next to you at the lights!

Most controllers have limiters so you can't overboost if you set it at a sensible level.

Putting welding tips in has lots of disadvantages:

Full boost all the time - not much fun in the rain/snow especially in an auto.

No adjustment for atmospheric pressure or temperature so you'll have a different amount of boost every day - Too much boost when it's hot so you'll soon hit safety boost on a warm day and have no power!

Difficult to tell exactly what boost you'll get when you fit them - all cars vary.

Difficult to remove.

Boost spikes can take you well over the level you are wanting.

Why do you need the safety boost during warm up? Do you always thrash it when it's cold?!

Ah Mike than what would the point in having this bit of equipment

Only problem with that is that they're also activated when the throttle is less than 0.7v, so the profec would keep rebooting. Best way is to make up a circuit that checks for solenoids active and throttle >0.7v then use that to cut the circuit between the EBC and its solenoid.

Oh, and why would the controller reboot?

I didn't mean wire the supply to the solenoid control, I meant wire the external input to the solenoid control ;)

Baggins told me if he had his chance again he would go with the Mig Tips every time.

And I stand by what I say , I have to agree with Paul there is nothing wrong with Boost tips/jets , oh and by the way if you have ever watched a boost controller there is a certain amount of spike on those to , albeit not as much as jets which if you are running 13-13.5psi may give you a spike of 0.5psi but no more than that
