...strange this one... I've got the opportunity to test a new product being launched into this country from the US. Basically it adds platinum to the combustion process and offers abour 20% savings in fuel (its sold as a fuel-saving device) or alternatively about 10% extra power - and about 70% better emissions. It's been in the US for a long time, sold mainly to big diesel trucks. This is the new petrol version.

Idea is that we dyno my 1990 NA with everything standard, then remove the cats and fit Coogs stainless exhaust (I get a ''free'' exhaust), and see what the bhp gain is with cats gone and a freer-flowing exhaust (as relatively standard upgrade). Then we add their product and dyno the car again.

If all goes well, we should have more power and cleaner emissions.

So, question is, are there perameters that should govern the testing, and does anyone know of a rolling road near Ipswich that could do the testing?

...and of course any comments are welcome.

cheers

...sorry it's Jocks exhaust that will be bought.

Firstly, i dont know a rolling road near ipswich.

Secondly the "parameters" you speak of???? Do you mean conditions and calibration of the Dyno? Surely the place you take it to will be well versed in calibrating its machinery to produce good reproducible results.

A note though the true power output will vary according to whether conditions so standardisation is important. (and THAT is a BAD spell of weather... get it?) Use the same centre and preferably make the runs you wish to compare within a short time of each other. Ambient temperature changes can be taken into consideration but there really can be no argument if the runs are made under the same conditions on the same day.

Thanks for the info. By parameters, I did mean weather conditions etc. I've no real knowledge and would welcome any info that would help ensure that the readings are relatively accurate. I'm not really interested in the ultimate power reading, just interested to see whether there will be a 'noticeable' increase at each improvement stage. Especially with the platinum fuel additive - which the manufacturers clain can increase bhp by up to 10%.

I think that the runs will have to be over three consecutive Saturday mornings. 1st with all standard geat, 2nd Saturday with no cats and non-standard exhaust, and thirdly with the fuel additive. From what I understand the additive has to be in the system for a few days to work to it's full extent.
