I've tried to remove the rear disk (drivers side) of my Zed as it was squeaking like hell. For some strange reason it doesn't want to budge. I've slackened off the handbrake by turning that wheel in the rear hub but that didn't make any difference. I've even shown it the hammer

The passenger front & rear disks came off very easily!

Removing the rear rotors requires a little additional effort. The emergency brake doesn't use the caliper like other cars do, it has it's own set of conventional brake shoes inside the rotor 'hat'. To get the rotor off the axle, make sure the emergency brake is released. Tap the rotor with a plastic mallet to get it to release from the hub. If that doesn't work, there are two threaded holes in the hat area to screw in pulley puller studs. Either attach a puller there, or get two bolts that fit the holes, twist the rotor where the bolts can be threaded all the way through without hitting the brake components inside & make contact with the backing plate. Just tighten them up until the rotor comes loose.

Cheers m8, I was going to do that last bit but couldn't find any bolts to fit. I'll just have to look a bit harder :)

You'll should really also 'wind' the shoes in using the self adjuster cog. It's accesible through the rubber bunged hole in the disc/drum, turn the disc till you can see the adjuster cog through the hole(either at approx 5 o,clock or 7 o'clock) and use a flat blade screwdriver to turn the cog which will 'wind in' the brake shoes. If you don't the brake shoes will foul the disc when you try to remove. Remember and wind the self adjuster back once you've replaced the disc.
