I've just picked up the 01/04 copy of FAST from my local dealer - Nothing much improved for the 300ZX, but is does have everything for the 350Z and comes with a windows2000 installation.

I might create an ISO if there's interest and put it in my Kazza - (hopefully I won't get any nasty mails from my service provider regarding overuse of bandwidth). If a few others do the same though, the wider population can download it pretty quickly (if using broadband - its 584MB)

maybe better to make a bit torrent file of the iso then pass this file to people who want it, i personnally hate kazaa

Kazza lite is ok I find, but always keen to other products.

I've head of Bit Torrent - but never looked into it - another P2P client I guess? Let me know whats what I need to do to get set up and I'll have a look.

In the meantime for those who do use Kazza - I've shared an .ISO on my machine - do a search for FASTer0104.iso (Hopefully Plus.net won't winge :))

Si.

this will explain how it works, FAQ

but basically the advantage is that once u start sharing the file to someone and more people join the group the load is taken of the original sharer, as they then start to share,

where as i find kazaa just full of people sharing fake files, viruses, trojans and generally slow, bit torrents tend have more recent and update files to browse

Can't find it on kazaa. :( I vote for bit torrent!

I've closed and re-established by kazza connection, so might work now. Otherwise fret not - I'm reading up on this BitTorrent stuff - sounds interesting, sounds like I need to create a .torrent file, and find a server to host it (which could be my own machine if I configure IIS)

Simon.

i use the Burst bit torrent client which is fairly straightforward to use and will also install Make Torrent when u click the make torrent button, select the file u wanna share, select a tracker from the list, then open that torrent, your pc will then be sending the iso to anyone else that opens the torrent file, initially it starts off slow, but as more join it speeds up, because the idea behind BT is that u have to share the file while u down load, so its not just full of free loaders

so u can either host this .torrent file on your freeweb space, or just email it people, there only about 30k or so.

Ok, I've made the .torrent file with MakeTorrent (added in to Burst). The tracker I used was: http://zionmatrix.com:6996/announce (do you actually need to know this?)

The file's been hashed and says its ready for download - I've got a command-style window up with some information regarding upload and download speeds, etc. But, every now and then it says "Error: Problem connecting to tracker -

Do I need to select another tracker?

Simon.

I think that all we need is a link to the torrent file itself. That will contain information about the file(s) you're sharing and the tracker.

The "Problem connecting to tracker" business is probably nothing to worry about if it only happens occasionally, but I can't get access to the main zionmatrix tracker web site and the alternate site doesn't list your torrent. :(

It may be worth using a different tracker.

All this discussion of p2p systems is good...

...but WTF is FAST?

I believe it's the parts catalogue that Nissan dealers use

Any chance of getting the torrent malarky working ? I'd like to get the latest FAST.

works ok for me. 7 hours though

Looks like it's working for me, although I had to go to work and leave it running this morning.

BTW if you're leeching over the uplink of my Satellite connection then good luck !

This seems to happen quite regularly - but persevere and it'll do the business

Simon.

It's working OK for me. Thanks

Only 2 seeders though. Have the rest of you grabbed the file and then stopped seeding? :xxx:
