Automatic aerial...

OK, ever since I put in my aftermarket head unit (Pioneer DEH-9100R) the leccy aerial no longer goes up and down..

Figured that was because it wasn't attached to the head unit smile.gif So.. Got a plug from Maplin, and wired it up to the *thick* aerial wire...

Couldn't pick up any stations, no up & down aerial action..

Wired it up to the *thin* aerial wire, now I have radio (FM & AM), but no leccy aerial action, so I assume it's running off the rear windscreen one..

Question is - what made the stock aerial go up and down!? There don't appear to be any non-connected wires to the stereo or anything like that..

Anyone know? Cheers biggrin.gif

There should be a +ve signal from the head unit to the aerial to make it go up/down.

This is normally connected to a blue cable on your head unit. Can't remember what colour it was on the Z loom though

Hmm that's what I figured.. But then I couldn't find any wires on the Z side of the loom that aren't connected to the stereo side of the loom.. All the wires in the plugs are used, the only spares were the two in the aerial cable..

Hmm.. There was a thick aerial cable and a thin one - the thick one didn't get me any radio reception.. That's not a power wire is it!?

Could it be that it is the thick cable, but that the aerial motor is bust or the rod is jammed? If its the latter, you should still be able to hear the motor whirring for about 10 seconds or so when you turn the head unit on and off.
