Diff oil pump questions

I'm thinking of fitting the transmission/diff oil pump from a UK car to my new manual box using my old engine oil cooler.

I've been told cooling isn't really needed but as I drive like a nutter and have had a new gearbox on every car I've ever owned, I think it's probably a good idea!

Does anyone know if it can be connected to cool my import diff too?

The Jap spec doesn't normaly have a cooler but I wondered if the mounting holes were there?

Does anyone know where the thermostat is that turns the pump on?

I'm not too bothered as it's mainly the gearbox I'm wanting to protect but I may as well mount it in the original location on the diff if it will.

A thought: Will the oil run at proper operating temperature if you fit a cooler? I have to say the boxes on both Zs have liked to run warm and don't seem any better/worse after busy twisties, so I'm not sure it will give you any benefit and might actually keep things a bit too gooey in there!

Does a UK diff have a cooler then?!

Yep UK has diff and tranny cooler. Operated by temp and road speed I *think*. Maybe its temp on the diff and road speed on the tranny - can't remember to be honest.... I wouldn't bother - not unless you're going to be doing a lot of long high speed runs - ie autobahn etc....

Every road is an autobahn isn't it?! :D

I was going to use the thermostat that's normally fitted to switch on and pump the oil through the cooler when it gets very hot.

I'm aware it's not too good running (or trying to pump) cold oil.

Doesn't seem like too much work to do, just wondered where to mount it.
