I was originally going to order the kit off ebay, but after reading the post yesterday i have been put off.

So i'm going to have ago myself.

If anyone has got any instructions or tips i would be very greatfull.

But i do have a concern on the door cards how do you get it to wrap around the end of the door as its a right angle, all kit manufactures use stitching but i'm affraid i can't do that so what is my alternative.

Also is there any other tricky party surely in places the material would pucker up how do you get around this.

Thanks

hi mate iv just spent the past 2 weeks on and off doing mine, finished everythin except for th door cards. i went thru about 5 different types of glues and th best one by far is evostick impact comes in a red tin form b&q and just brushes on like paint, u put it on both surfaces and let it dry for about 30mins befor putting them together. get lotsa tubes of superglue as well to glue the edges to th back of each panel, it gives u exactly what u need: an instant strong adhesion. for corners and curves u need to stretch the vinyl out, just heat it up with a hairdryer and ul be amazed at how much difference it makes. the rear quarters are a bitch and i still get a bubble on the left side when i park th car on my side of th street cos th sun shines directly onto it, just make a pin hole and press down if that happens. cant think of anythin els right no but if i do il add it

good luck

Thanks for your help, but have you got any ideas how to do the door cards?

Do you know what i mean about them by what i said i don't know if I explained it to well.

yeh i no what u mean, ur talkin about th bottom most outer corner of th door, like i said mate hairdryer and lotsa stretchin, ul be able to get th creases small enough to be not noticed from far but thers no way u can get it perfect

I have been looking into this and it seems a hide is around £90.

What are you using? Leather or vinyl?

He gives a few hints and tips on door cards.

u could pull th creases to th underside of th door card wher they will not be seen i suppose

I did mine in Alcantera. Bit more expensive than vinyl but MUCH easier to work with cos it's stretchy!!

The tip about lots of tubes of superglue is a good 'un. I used 3 tubes I think.

nismo, where did you buy the alcantera from and how much did you use, also the price, dont want much do i bud. :)

hoodsgalore in southend have given me a quote for a leather hide £130 in light grey coming from italy, he has told me there will be enough in the hide to do the lot, not sure if its a good price he also said to recover the front seats with the grey strip up the middle £350 if any one is interested I will get the number

Everything Yaseen has said is 100% with his info i finished trimming mine yesterday after 14 hours and 2 tubs of evo stick impact and 2 tubes of superglue. When it comes to going round the corners i sat in front of my fire and heated the vinyl up this way lot quicker than a hairdryer and easier to position, you do get a few creases but this is on the bends which adds to the leather effect i think.

Oh and dont forget to use electrical wire tubing as piping to add that special touch :D 25metres for £5.

Total job cost £30.

Ant ;)

Just spent all of today doing mine, did all the fiddly panels around the dash and it looks pretty good!:D just need to do the doors and the rear panels and off we go! I used B&Q Superspray adhesive thats pretty shit hot stuff! Lots of super glue and lots of pegs and it wasnt too bad a job.

Be careful when using that glue as i started of using that and as soon as you put it back in the car and the heat gets to it the bits that wrap around the back start to peel, i redid the edges of my first panels with evo stick impact to make sure they are stuck completely.

I did all the panels with the spray and left to dry then went round all the edges and smothered them with superglue!:D Ill see how it goes, if it comes off ill just redo it.

Just a quick question if I can jump in -

Is it always better to take off the tweed or cover on top of it? I guess it would be tricky to get adhesion to the tweed?

with the evostick impact th vinyl sticks pretty solidly to the tweed, better than the bear plastic/fibreglass (whatever the panels are made of).

however its a waste of time sticking it on th tweed on the rear quarters as i found out because the stretched areas of th vinyl pull th tweed off the panel , so u get left with bubbles that u can do absolutely nuthin about.

take the tweed off, grab a wallpaper scraper and get all th foam off, very quick and light sanding with sandpaper to smoothen it and clean with a damp cloth.

basically get th tweed of everythin except for th doors, its not that difficult to do th job over the tweed on th doors

Thanks for that but you say it sticks better to the tweed than to the plastic underneath but then say take the tweed off everything except the doors?

yeh thats cos u need th tweed to get a rough template out on the vinyl and also if you put the vinly on top of the tweed on th panels the layer of fabric will be too thick and they wont sit flush together, especially th centre console parts

oh yeh definately do it over th tweed on the centre console lid!

I pulled all the tweedy stuff of EVERYTHING today, and started covering with cream vinyl, made handbrake & gearstick covers too :) , looks pretty dam good if I say so myself !!.. hehe

Just the doors to to now .. :/ will probably have it finished tommorow .

Will post up piccies when done,if the man of the moment/International playboy/all round a1 fantastic guy steve-o hosts them again for me .. :)

if you use a water based glue like a laytex style, this should prevent the material from lifting back off in sunlight or heat. :hyper:

the only downside must be put on right first time as you will not be able to pull it back off.......... :slap:

You would be best using a proper apol. glue from a car apol. I got mine from Hukes in Hemel Hempstead.

Geoff.
