convert to manual... or you could buy my auto box for 5K and i'll throw in the rest of the car for free!!

try dropping the pan on the autobox

and then cleaning the mesh filter, it wont cure the breaking up

but it MAY cure your non-drive for a short term, as the noise could be

transmission fluid starvation, especially as you say its ok for a short while,

its worth an hours work if it cures for a bit, while you hunt round for alternative box

This is classic, and if you clean the filter it may drive for a while, but it is a waste of money (oil and filter) and you are probably also doing even more damage to the hard parts in the box.

Accept it, dont waste even more money.

1-the filter is wire mesh so no cost there

2-the fluid is pennies for 2-3 months of extended life

and you cant damage the box anymore if your replacing

my first post on this forum was about my autobox

since then its had some serious driving without a blip (although mine didnt have carbon etc in it)

if youve got the cash to swop the box, then go for it,

or remove the pan and see EXACTLY whats in there

There are 2 planetary gears in your gear box, each of those gears holds 4 smaller gears, on each of the smaller gears there are 2 copper thrust washers, these are buried within the drive train. It could be one or two of those washers broken up.

Also at the front of the drive train there is a large drum, housing two sets of plates, this drum runs on a copper looking bush, although i dont think it is actually made of copper, it could be that.

Email me if you want to get it sorted.

The PLanetary gears can be very expensive, and as the gearbox eats itself these stand more chance of being damaged, among other things.

A quote from most reputable auto box rebuilders will EXCLUDE damage to hard parts, so on top of the quote you could add a lot of money.

Of course you might change to a manual then this makes no difference.
