I've been having intermittant misfire/cylinder down etc. Ran this morning from cold perfect and went to see Steve and coming home a cylinder went down.

Steve and i notice a few things to try and so i just wanted to see if anyone else had tried them and if so what results they had.

1: Move top water pipe further down the ali pipe to increase distance between rubber hose and PTU.

2: Remove the sound insulation from underside of bonnet.

3: Make a heat shield to go between the water hose and PTU.

I was also wondering if its the PTU unit overheating or the heat from the engine affecting it? If its the first would covering the back face in heat transfer paste help?

Also now it's started playing up is it fooked or can i still save it?

Thanks,

Stu

Check the left hand connector on the PTU - can be a royal PITA for causing misfires... ;)

If the PTU is causing the misfire, and it's not a loose connection, you'll need to replace or (possibly!) repair the PTU. If your going to replace it, buy a series 2 PTU from the states, they don't fail!

Stu The sound insulation is put there to stop the build up of condensation , underneath the bonnet , I know some cars used to get this quite bad and it used to be vital , not sure if its a prob on the Zed , I know a few people have removed it without probs

Not done this myself but if heat is a problem then this wouldn't be a bad thing

TBH, with the new unit i dont think relocating would have any advantage. the old units have fine solid wires that are soldered, these break which cause the problem (due to vibration, heat and or age!). the new units are completely different & do away with these crappy wires!!

I agree, just buy a new one and get further into debt like the rest of us.
