for those of you wishing to try the Linux operating system on your pc without losing windows or reloading you can download a LIVE version that boots up and runs from your CD here.

This is great as it allows people to get an idea of what linux is without losing or reconfiguring your system.

JD, I remember you saying bout knoppix, you wanna try this - I think SUSE is Better IMHO.

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/

then goto LIVE-EVAL-9.0

its a 650MB Download but well worth it for playing around with

Dont get me wrong, im not a linux fan but as there are million of people over the world developing it for free I think its gonna bite MS on the ass as its now becoming user friendly.

Im gonna have a play with Suse 9 Live tonight

Linux wont be free for ever I don't think.

Suse has been bought by Novell, SCO have their mits on a lot of rights to it now, RH don't do free d'loads anymore.

Whether or not the other distro's will get caught up in licensing issues with the three big players is a worry.

Linux is free in the sense that there are no user licenses, but for the CD/DVD SUSE is the most expensive mandrake is next cheapest.

I've setup a could of linux machines for display in the shop, most people are too scared to leave something they know and trust (cough cough). I've started selling loads of Linux servers to businesses.

I really cant beleive how far behind UK is in the Linux industry!

probably one of the securest "free" distrubutin of BSD available

I don't recommend linux for the desktop really, we use it on all our servers currently though, still some clients insist on windows, as long sa you maintain both they are generally bullet proof.

ive used knoppix 3.3 a couple of times, quite a useful tool, amazing how you put it in just about any PC and it works straight off :)

We are not that far behind , my company trains software engineers and for the last 3 years we have trained more engineers in Linux than any other OS , Linux is getting bigger and stronger all the time , you even have companies like Motorola and HP adopting Linux , MS stance is now to work along side Linux not iradicate it as are all the other big OS players

Isn't Linux from "Peanuts"
