Has anybody fitted one of these, if so can they recommend a size or Brand.

Im looking at binning the stereo and box underneath and fitting a LCD screen.

I may wire this up to either a laptop/computer in the boot or an xbox.

This way I can have a 120GB MP3 Collection / SATNAV / Videos etc.

I know you can get expensive popout screens etc but Im wondering about some of the LCDs on ebay.

May be worth checking with Bob from Safe & Sound in the traders forums. I think he's dealt with many different LCD screens.

I bought mine from a place in london about 80.00 for a screen i think, I made the mounting bracket meself, so its removable also when i leave car, couldnt afford one of them 1000.00 ones that folds down and sits in your car ready to be nicked.

I'll dig out link in a sec and post up some piccies mate.

Now I know this isnt job of the century and I havn't got round to finishing it yet, BUT, when all in the car it looks tidy I think, and when out it looks a fooking mess and in the dark when some theaving toerag is looking in quick it will look like nothing there to nick or its already been nicked. Hence y I like it Here's the pics;

Its only a cheapo ceturian one, but looks ok, been working fine for six months and does the job for me, like I said think it was about 80.00 new.

It would be good to have a laptop or something wired in, and have Conzult running as you go. Is that possible? Can you get some kind of GPS system that will run on an in-car computer? - like the Kane system for handhelds.

I used to have a (daylight viewable tft) touch screen mounted in the dash connected to a pc in the boot and the amps & sub & stuff. Loads of wiring! DVD, TV, MP3, CD, Radio. Shut itself down when you turned the ignition off and such.

Still have the screen & pc & the cusom console surround I made - its all collecting dust now in the shed along with all the unfinished software, plans & docs!

What did I learn? If time is no problem and you have the tenacity then go with your custom build. Otherwise spend the money on a manufactured soloution.

fingerpig, you selling the touchscreen?

If you fit a laptop, you could concievably fit a PAYGO mobile with bluetooth and GPRS, and have good internet connx on the go too.

Even more obscure, fit a discretely dashmounted usb webcam, link your car security system to the laptop, car gets stolen/broken into, powers up the laptop, webcam take pics at set intervals and automatically emails them through the bluetooth/gprs mobile connection

Small laptop in boot wired up to a USB IDE DVD mounted in the Dash with a 7" widescreen

so that you dont have to go to boot to change DVD/CD/MP3

Bluetooth minikeyboard & trackball for internet & cyberlink power cinema with a wireless remote control

Laptop could always be set up to go into hibernate mode, so that you dont have to wait on it booting up all the time too.

heh! you could even fit a rear mount webcam for video reversing & security, if your pride & joy was nicked, the rear webcam would have pics of exactly where it is!

just bought a kenwood mask 6.5" screen off ebay that flips out and have sent it back once because It dind'nt work just got it back and it still does'nt work! bloody ebay

Yes, you can hook up the ConZult to an in-dash screen. You'll require a small PC/Laptop to be fitted in the car (for which you'll require an inverter to power it). We can provide a custom "over view" screen showing various sensors in real-time which is displayed when you activate the PC/Laptop. If you integrate some sort of pointing device then data logging will also be possible. If anyone is seriously interested in this then drop me an e-mail and I'll get a price for doing the custom coding work. Here is a piccy of someone who has done precisely this:

This particular vehicle uses a custom made in-car PC stowed under the passenger seat. Very neat!
