Should you mess with a classic???

I've loved the Zed ever since I first saw one in 1989. Never got round to buying one though (hopefully in a year or two). But having looked through the rides section I see that alot of you have messed with the styling. My preference is for a standard looking Zed, maybe with a nice set of wheels and a large hoop spoiler. The best looking Zed I have seen on here so far belongs to Tanzx.

Your thoughts!!! (Light blue touch paper and retreat to a safe distance!!!!)

At first I liked the standard styling, and I think that some 'purists' might say you shouldn't mess with the style of a classic car, but if you buy a big chunk of metal you can do what you like with it. You like one with big chrome wheels. It looks excellent, but it's not exactly 'standard' is it? What's wrong with stock wheels if you don't want to mess with a classic...

Everyone's got their own taste threshold, but there are some pictures that get posted up here where everyone goes 'eeeeegh!!'. It thought I wouldn't mess with mine, but you get bitten- I needed the exhaust done, now it's not standard, and I do like my new exhaust better. If the spoiler went rotten I'd have that taken off- it would be even less standard then but you think what if I just did this..... If you do engine mods, it's not standard, and if they make the engine more powerful or reliable (!!) or better, then isn't that a good thing.

I think some modifications do make the car look better. I was walking up to the car yesterday- and I do like the arse-end view - but I thought that the back lights do look quite dated now, but maybe that's one of the things to love about the car. I have seen some light conversions that I really like, and some that look shite. Got to choose if you want to take the car and engine and change it to something modern or flash or whatever, or your thing is saying, look, I've got a classic and I'm proud to drive it whether or not you think it looks dated.

I'd like one kept 'classic' as a daily drive and another modded and styled :D

I remember a thread like this a while ago and I said which car in the rides I liked best, but I've completely changed my mind now and probably will again in a few weeks. The best car is always going to be your own, isn't it? I still lust after what other people have got (!!) but don't think I'd swap. Well, maybe if someone said, here have this darkk red tt swb in showroom condition with nice alloys..........

Yes and no - I think the styling is of it's era but in my opinion, the rear standard spoiler totally ruines the smooth lines of the car. You could argue that there is nothing else on the car that has such harsh lines as the spoiler so I would say that the 99 spec front and smoother spoiler, gives the Z a few more years.

its your car - mess about with it as much as you want

personally i didnt buy mine to get me from a to b i bought it as a hobby and to modify - this week i feel like a change of style so i'm putting a different nose on it - perhaps in 6 months i might change it again - :hyper: im having FUN :duffer: so sue me i dont like fishing

large hoop spoiler eh, but you don't want to mess with the styling!

Nope!! with the possible exception of tastefull, (ie, not ridiculously big) wheels leave em be, they already look great, and a lot of mods, if not done to a very very high standard look "Kit car" ish.

Just my twopence worth, as for performance mods.... well thats different!
