white leather cracks ? read on..

This is a simple method, which is quite obvious in some ways, and probably been covered a hundred times, but will post it up anyways .. ;)

My leather was well cracked, and with the cracks being white they stood out like a sore thumb..

I bought a SMALL tin of dark blue dye ( or whatever colour your leather is ) called dyol which was a quid ! ;) , diluted a very small amount of the powder with water, stuck a poly-bag on my hand and clothed the entire interior with the dye,it sits on the leather, but dyes all the cracks the same colour.

left it for 10 mins, wiped all the seats with a clean damp cloth, then nourished it with auto-glym cream leather polish.

they look FANTASTIC ,I'm so proud of myself !!.. hehe :p

mmmmm - does it come in Black?

sounds like a good plan, my drivers side is cracked from people sliding in and out.

its common dye, comes in loads of colours..,if you have any problems finding it I will get one for you.

Just look in any hardware/ironmonger store,or look in Linda Barkers ' bag of goodies ' .. :)

oooops , just checked its called 'dylon' , not dyol.... :)

Good idea, was gonna do a simalar thing but with neat dye and a match stick to put in the cracks.

Havn't got round to it yet tho.

A bit OT but anyone know what I Can use to paint-cover the rubber window seals, cause me bottom ones are fading white and it looks cack. Silicone cover wont work cause its actually got the colour faded.

cheers

Hey just an idea, but we could all post up some ideas and methods of 'quick fixes' for interior problems / exterior problems (light scratches, medium scratches, deep scratches, cracked leather, dull steering wheel etc etc) just to help people mint their cars a bit or to help em fix it cheap when they are low on cash.

Would could post it up on faq or something? silly idea? don't know.

But while im saying this, if your steering wheel is looking tatty, put some leather restorer on the actual wheel where it has peeled, let it soak in, then get a tube of leather laquer from a fabric shop for like 2.00 and bang it on, job done, good as new :D be suprised how many people I seen with crap looking s/wheels for the sake of a couple of quid and 10 mins work!

have you tried back to black on your rubber? it usually makes mine a very clear looking black.

Use Autoglym Bumper Care on your plastic/rubber trim and it'll look like new.

Brings off the white powdery look that it gets over the years and it doesn't leave that horrible sticky/slippery goo that you get with the silicone stuff like Back to Black etc.

Worked wonders on mine and I know a few others here have had great results with it too.

Great tips - especially the leather dye, I'll have to give that a go :)

Why on earth would you use blue dye on white leather???!!!!
