Machining rotors

Has anyone had their front brake disks skimmed in a machine shop ?

Whats the most you can skim off ?

How many of you just replace the pads and leave the rotors alone ?

Thanks

I've had mine done, they were ground rather then turned and cost £18 per disc. the job was a goodun. :) When they came back they were 29.6mm.

I believe the minimum is 28mm on the TT discs (down from 30mm), or at least it says something to that effect on the side of my Brembo's.

I've also had a set (BMW M3 discs 315mm) turned for free by a mate after I warped them, I'm just in the middle of putting them back on (did one side last night), I'll let you know how I get on, will do the other side and test them tonight as long as it doesn't rain.

It's pissing it down, It'll not be getting done tonight.

Thanks Jezz

I would have liked to have my disks skimmed, but its too awkward, I only have one car, so I guess I will just do the pads and calipers. I have been looking around for a cheap lathe to buy though, would come in handy from time to time.

Get the others machined once you've replaced them, ready for next time. the minimum thickness for a particular disc should be cast into the side of it.
