Hello all,

Does anyone know how to disengage the HICAS system, i have read an old thread, and the advise was to undo one plug at the hicas unit and join two wires together. There is two obvious plugs, one has three wires to it and the other has two wires. But the one with two wires is linked to the steering fluid bottle.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks

mate just find and pull the fuse!!

Alright mate,

is that all i need to do?

What will pulling the fuse do?

Pulling the fue eliminates the HICAS on the the electrical version which was 1995+ Spec.

The joining 2 wires trick is for the ECU Diag.

Make sure the steering wheel is straight.

To get into HICAS diag, turn the ignition on and start the engine.

Wait for 2 or 3 seconds.

turn the wheel at least 20º past centre left and then 20º past centre to the right 5 times, and then pump the brake pedal 5 times making sure it comes all the way up each time.

You have to do this with in 10 or 15 seconds. The HICAS light will come on if its worked.

I found that after starting the engine keep turning the wheel left right making sure you turn past the 20º each time and at the same time keep pumping the brake pedal.

If you have got it correct, when you turn the wheel past 20º when in diag mode, the rear wheels will turn the same way.

Nice advice there SRRAE, Sounds like a good bit of info worth a try especially for me as I keep having probs with Hicas generally and when doing drift burnouts etc.

There is a method whereby you can disconnect the HICAS by shorting out a plug. John Dixon or baggins are the people to talk to, or do a search on it , was mentiuoned in a thread with pics before

Ok im dumb i keep seeing "hicas" but what is it ,i know im from essex but we dont even have it in our essex dictonary

so how does this disengage the hicas??

An explanation:

Super HICAS (to give it its full name) (High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension) basically uses the angle of the rear wheels to "assist" the steering of the car, it is speed sensitive and at lower speeds will angle the front and rear wheels in different directions ( effectively understearing the car) and then bring them into a corner, then bring them back into alignment throught the corner (to improve your exit). As the speed increases the difference between the angle of the two sets of wheels will decrease.

To disengage it:

to do it pop the bonnet and have a look at the hicas unit

you will see a small redish /brown connector

separate this connector

when you separate it you will have 1 part towards the front of the car the other towards the rear.

simply connect a loop of wire across the two pins in the forward part.

the hicas is now disabled.

To disable it, you just have to make it think something is broken.

Easiest way is to simulate low fluid level, so disconnect the plug with 2 wires that goes to the fluid bottle then short out the side that goes back to the loom.

HICAS light should come on and no more HICAS!

God knows why, but my hicas light is always coming on ?? My fluid level is spot on, i thought that it originally came on after giving it a bit of wellie, but I can be driving down the motorway and it will come on for no apparrent reason even in a straight line. Any ideas ????

Thanks now i know what everyone is talking about!!! but y disable it?? it sounds like a great bonus to me...

So it won't effect the power steering by doing this? Is that fluid bottle dedicated to the HICAS unit? If that is the case thank you i will try that.

:hyper: :hyper:

The fluid bottle is shared with the PAS. It won't be affected though. (Unless you run out of fluid and don't know because you've shorted the connector!!)

Cheers for that

The HICAS works by the position of the steering wheel. If you have had it tracked and the wheel is not straight enough when you are driving forward. The HICAS thinks you are turning and turns the rear wheels accordingly. There is a safety feature on the HICAS which says if the HICAS is detecting you are turning for a very long time, it presumes that something is not right because you would be driving round in a big circle. So it then turns off the HICAS and returns the wheels to the standard position.

so how does this disengage the hicas??

Dont think it does, it just looks cool. I have never done it as I dont have HICAS :(

Checked to see if the wheel is central when driving straight, and it is, checked this a few months ago, so I am still really confused. Anymore suggestions ???
