Just looked at the left front brake pads, outside ones are worn a hell of a lot more than the inside ones, does this suggest seized pistons on the inside?

When I replace the pads, should I be also be doing a caliper rebuild? if so, wheres the best place for caliper kits and standard brake pads?

Thanks

John

Thanks Ryan,

I dont push my zed too hard, so I probably dont need the pads with the ultimate stopping power when heated up, just a good all round pad for street use that will last reasonably well.

John

John the porterfields are fine when cold but when hot seem to grip the disks very well and as yet no real signs of brake fade

Ryan

Currently using Metal Matrix too and quite impressed with them, not too costly either

Mine were Redstuff on front got em for 71.00 :D (no vat)

and normal ebc for rear (dont do red stuff)

Green's to light for Z's not high enough temp rating and too soft.

Red stuff's the ones to go for.

oh yeh, rear ebc was bout 15 quid, they dont do red stuff or any other than standard for rear I was told.

And the front Price was for R34 calipers, but Z pads about same price so I recon 90 squid

Though i normally supply porterfields as they last the longest and seem to perform the best, i've an order going in end of next week to a supplier who stocks matrix and they would be 45 quid a set mate (fronts) and 80 quid for both front and rears.

Thanks Paul,

I was hoping to do my front brakes this weekend as the outside pads are really thin, If I dont get any for this week I will let you know, so when do you think you will get them by?

Cheers

John

Fraid it would be the weekend after fella, very few companies do these in the UK,

Why would brake pads last longer in a non turbo

Depends how you drive.

John

The NA is lighter. But it does depend how you drive.

I can follow most people down a country road without using the brakes, even though their lights come on at every curve. This is true even in lesser cars, so can't just be down to the Z's better cornering. It's just a question of dropping back a bit and using the space to smooth out their changes in speed. (IE you get closer to them on corners and further away on straights.) Saves fuel too!

Basically, don't use the brakes at 10% or so ever... brake fairly hard or not at all!

Since you're still following the car ahead you don't get there any slower. You can't boot a Z if there's anything ahead of you anyway, so no great loss on the entertainment front either!

Obviously all of this assumes you don't have a Vectra up yer ass.

I've got grooved discs of unknown origin...

If I take the wheels off will I see a mfgrs mark on them somewhere?

Will brake bias go totally up the wall if I put Porterfields on the front and stock on the back? The car seems quite oversteerish on braking anyway so I ought to get away with it.

I have Porterfields on mine, best pads I have ever used. I'm well impressed.

When ever ive had a seized piston the pad has always worn more on the seized side, because it keeps pressure against the disc and doesnt retract, am i unique lol?

if u go to a partco near u u can cet front pads i think they are mintex for £22.00 plus vat the part no is UGCGBP1000AF for the type with four holes and the type with the spring is GIRGB744 (i think these are girling) price £25.00 plus vat i hope this helps any problems email me at ronttuk@yahoo.co.uk

John i've a spare set from Jeff they've only covered about 50 miles although they did squeak which is why i changed them again.

You're welcome to them FOC they may not squeak when they're in your car?

I appreiate your very generous offer Alex, thanks very much, but I did end up buying a set of semi-metalic ones from Mike @ MJP, which should arrive today or tomorrow.

Again, thanks Alex.
