Ive heard that when you decatt your Z be prepared for the blue smoke. This was a conversation i had Monday at the Zedcentre and the conclusion was that its not worth taking the risk if you havent got the money to splash out on tubbies. Also remember that it will make your zorst louder. Not sure of the gains though but dont worry somone will soon tell you!!

Around an extra 10bhp de-catted.

thanks guys.i think i'll just go from cat back.

Mine's been decatted for a few years now with no signs of turbo seals leaking, I'm sure there are plenty more people who would say the same :)

Dont think it goes "decat = new turbo seals"... as the scare merchants will have you believe. The risk is increased obviously, but its not a given.

Yeah I have to agree there, I guess it will depend on the current condition of your seals already, the milage and how much of a hard life the turbo's have had. My exhaust is currently in a bit of a state so im thinking of decatting too, when they say decat does it mean from the turbo's back or from the downpipe back?

I think it's from the downpipes usually, the cheaper option anyway, although mine was a swap for the downpipes too, service history shows it cost £376

bloody hell thats not bad! ive seen quite a few cat replacement pipes from the US that come with down pipes and cat replacements at a not bad price. Is it wise to do cat back then replace the rest when you want or is it more cost effective to buy the whole lot as one? sorry to hijack MSCTT :slap:

its not necessarily the turbos if you decat, appaerently the breather system isnt man enuff to deal with the system decatted, turbo technics do a breather kit for about 80 quid. This will fix 90% of smoking probs rather than having to bin your tubs (allegedly!!!) just involves a couple o valves etc ...

Just found this thread.

I got a 1992 Z TT,

Decatted it and straight through zorst all way from down pipes, recently been getting smokey probs, not on boost, but only after high boost and i let off accel for a few seconds?

Car is mint, no smoke at boost, startup or tickover?

Interested in hearing about this breather system kit u talk about and what it does / how it fits/replaces,

I've had pcv's out and they were fine.

mate talk to john at ross road garage - 01452 830333 it was his mechanic (martin i think!!) who told me about it. They are kind of z specialists so......

Yeh hoping to, im in swindon.

Got a few other friends with Z's in swindon have to see if they want to come up 2.

Just gotta get this smokey prob fixed!
